2020 Moir Stakes Nominations & Odds: Fabergino Early Favourite to Beat Big Guns

Up-and-coming sprinter Fabergino has been installed as the all-in favourite in AJ Moir Stakes 2020 betting for Friday night at The Valley to beat home a likely star-studded field of Group 1 performers.

The Group 1 $1 million Moir Stakes (1000m) highlights a top Moonee Valley twilight meet this Friday evening and attracted 17 early entries on Monday.

It is one of the lesser-known nominees, the Tiarnna Robertson-trained Fabergino who dominates pre-field Moir Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au with the Maschino mare at $4.80 to win.

The ultra-consistent grey from Bennett Springs in Western Australia is a short-distance specialist boasting an outstanding 1000m record of seven wins and two thirds from nine starts.

She has had just a dozen career runs for a total of nine wins and is a brilliant first-up horse having won all seven of her resuming runs to date.

Fabergino is a multiple stakes winner at Ascot over in Perth and was last seen dominating the Group 3 Northam Stakes (1100m) at the track with a nearly three-length win as the odds-on pick back in May.

Prior to that she put together three straight spring – summer wins including on in Melbourne when saluting in the Listed ATA/BOB Hoysted Stakes (1000m) at Flemington in late February.

The half-a-million-dollar earner is up notably in grade for the Moir this weekend, but is being kept safe in betting and is currently stabled alongside fellow Moir hopeful Brooklyn Hustle at the stables of Jason Warren.

“She’s handled the trip over this time really well and she’s settled in very well,” her trainer told Racenet this week.

“It’s really nice there. It’s more like the environment she’s used to at home so she seems really relaxed.”

The dangers looking at the early markets installed as the equal $5.50 second elects are Will Clarken’s flying Adelaide-based mare Bella Vella and Godolphin’s Group 1 champ Trekking.

Commands six-year-old Bella Vella extended her winning streak to four straight when she resumed at Moonee Valley for a narrow victory in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m).

That was her first victory since the blow-out at home in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) as a 40/1 outsider and proved she was going just as well this time in.

Bella Vella also has an outstanding strike-rate at the notoriously tight Moonee Valley track with three wins and a second from her four runs there ahead of the big one on Moir Stakes night.

Trekking meanwhile is yet to win at the track, the James Cummings-trained son of Street Cry down to resume in the Moir after his failed title defence in Brisbane’s Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) back in June.

Prior to that he took out Morphettville’s Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) and Trekking looked strong in a recent Rosehill trial win ahead of his spring kick-off.

Anthony & Sam Freedman’s gun Street Boss colt Hanseatic ($8) coming off a second to Bella Vella in the McEwen and fellow three-year-old Away Game ($9) round out the early single-figure hopes in the Moir Stakes odds in a very open market.

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Snitzel filly Away Game has won four of her eight career starts and was runner-up to Farnan in the Group 1 $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) back in March.

She was last seen running under three lengths back fifth to Bella Vella in the Group 1 Robert Sangster and will be after atonement first-up this weekend out to add to her already impressive $2.72 in prize money.
