A bumper card at Royal Randwick continues the build-up to the spring carnival majors today – Saturday September 7 – for Chelmsford Stakes Day 2019, scratchings and the latest track report for the Sydney meet detailed below.

It is a partly cloudy but otherwise fine day forecast for the Randwick races this afternoon and with no chance of rainfall the current Soft (5) Randwick track rating looks set to stay.

Sydney racing at Randwick kicks off at 12:10pm and the nine race program continues through until the last at 5:10pm.

There are four Group status races on the program and plenty of spring stars on show including the Ladbrokes Cox Plate hopes doing battle in the feature race of the day – the Group 2 2019 Chelmsford Stakes (Race 7).

There are 15 hopefuls remaining in the Chelmsford Stakes field – markets at Ladbrokes.com.au for which are firmly led by odds-on favourite Avilius ($1.95) – after the scratching of #5 Sixties Groove (9) who ran second last in Friday’s Wyong Gold Cup.

The only other Group race on the line-up affected by the Sydney scratchings is the Group 2 2019 Tramway Stakes (Race 8) where trainer Chris Waller still has eight of the remaining 13 chances after withdrawing #9 Tom Melbourne (13).

All seven fillies are still in the mix for the Group 2 2019 Furious Stakes (Race 5) featuring Libertini, while two-time defending champion Redzel will face five rivals on way to his third The Everest run in the Group 3 2019 Concorde Stakes (Race 6).
