The $100,000 Magic Millions Wyong 3YO & 4YO Stakes (1200m) field features a small but class line-up of eight sprinters this summer including the smart Godolphin-raced filly Exhilarates.

The daughter of Snitzel is heading towards the Gold Coast’s $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) on January 11 for which she pays $9 as the third favourite in pre-field betting at Ladbrokes.com.au to win.

She warms up for the $2 million feature this week in the Wyong race over 200m shorter drawn the outside barrier (8) with Kerrin McEvoy to ride.

Exhilarates returns to Wyong 12 months on from her second in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic there last December, after which she went on to win back-to-back Gold Coast races including the $2 million Magic Millions Classic feature event.

This season she has enjoyed two subsequent wins including a Group 3, but she is after atonement having run seventh last start in Caulfield’s Group 3 Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) behind Anaheed on October 16.

McEvoy is confident the filly can bounce back and return to her former ace juvenile form starting on Thursday.

“She trialed well so this is a nice starting point for her as she heads to the Magic Millions,” he told Racenet this week.

“I was pleased with how she went in the trial. It was a routine mid prep trial as James [Cummings, trainer] likes to call them. I am happy with how she felt.

“Her Melbourne campaign was good.

“She didn’t have a lot of luck in the Blue Sapphire. We were bumped, hustled around and it didn’t suit her.

“All in all, she had a good campaign down there.

“The Blue Sapphire you can put a line through that so I think she is in really good form and she’s had a nice freshen up heading into this summer campaign.”

The other standout three-year-old in the Wyong Magic Millions Stakes field at even shorter all-in odds for the Gold Coast’s Magic Millions 3YO Guineas next month ($8) is Diamond Thunder.

Representing one of the form trainers from the spring Mark Newnham, the Dawn Approach gelding has won four of his six starts to date including two Black-Type events, the latest of which was at Randwick over 1200m on October 26.

Another last-start winning three-year-old in the mix is the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Snitzel colt Discharged who saluted at Canterbury on November 29, while Team Snowden’s son of Zoustar Leviathan has career start number four in the event.

Matt Cumani’s Ballarat Magic Millions 3YO&4YO Classic third placed Nicconi four-year-old Akkadian carries the 59kg topweight from the inside alley with big race specialist Glen Boss aboard.
