2019 Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes Field: Bivouac Odds-On in Barrier 1

Gun Golden Rose winning three-year-old Bivouac is tipped to continue the ace form out of that race with a Group 1 Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes win from the inside alley at The Valley on Friday night.

Moonee Valley Racecourse lights-up on Friday evening for the Cox Plate Carnival kick-off, racing on the night’s program headlined by the Group 1 $1 million Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes (1200m).

The weight-for-age sprint feature attracted an 11-horse field with the latest Manikato Stakes odds at race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au dominated by the James Cummings-trained Bivouac at $1.80.

The Godolphin-raced Exceed And Excel colt came up trumps with barrier one in the Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes field as he chases a third win on the trot.

Last start he beat home Yes Yes Yes for the second time winning the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) in late September.

Yes Yes Yes franked that form last weekend at Randwick defeating a star-studded field of older horses in the $14 million The Everest (1200m) in a new race record time.

Six days later Bivouac will look to do something similar in Melbourne making his Moonee Valley debut as the odds-on fancy with Kerrin McEvoy replacing Hugh Bowman in the saddle.

McEvoy boasts two recent wins in the Manikato Stakes aboard Danleigh (2009) and Sepoy (2011), the latter the last three-year-old winner of the sprint showdown who also jumped from barrier one.

Bivouac is out to be the first three-year-old Manikato Stakes winner since Sepoy (2011) also ridden by Kerrin McEvoy

There are two other three-year-olds in the mix on Friday night with the fillies Anaheed and Loving Gaby drawn opposite ends of the field in barriers 11 and two respectively.

The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Fastnet Rock filly Anaheed ($15) is also a last-start winner having taken out the Group 3 Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield last Wednesday.

This is a notable rise in grade and she will need every bit of the four kilo drop in weight (54kg to 51kg) to be competitive especially after the horror outside draw.

Loving Gaby meanwhile jumps closer to the rails with Craig Williams in the saddle of the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained I Am Invincible filly.

She was a two-time Group 1 runner-up in Randwick during April, including behind Saturday’s Cox Plate hope Castelvecchio in the Champagne Stakes (1600m), and has winning form at the track.

First-up she won a Group 3 over this track and distance before a second at Caulfield, the $9.50 Manikato odds on Loving Gaby looking enticing for an Each Way prediction.

The other two runners under double-figures in the Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes odds this season are The Bostonian ($6.50) and Trope ($8.50).

Tony Pike’s dual Group 1 winner in Brisbane over the winter The Bostonian is back third-up here with last weekend’s Caulfield Cup winning jockey Damian Lane aboard.

The Kiwi galloper was unplaced first-up behind Nature Strip here at The Valley in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) before an improved run for third in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1100m).

The Schillaci Stakes winner Trekking went on to finish third behind Yes Yes Yes in The Everest results last weekend, and third-up over the 1200m distance (6:4-0-0) looks ideal for The Bostonian.

Trope is a lightly-raced More Than Ready entire for Team Hawkes having career start number seven on Friday night.

The four-year-old chestnut has just one win on his record so far but has been competitive in Sydney this prep running second in both the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) at Randwick and the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill.
