Premier trainer Chris Waller’s weight of numbers dominates the nominations for the 2018 Group 2 $250,000 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Waller’s name appeared beside eight of the twenty horses nominated for the Chelmsford Stakes that is run under weight for age conditions over the famous Randwick Mile.

Among the Waller nominations are the former New Zealand trained I Am Coldplay and Patrick Erin as well as Japanese import Satono Rasen.

Waller’s other Chlemsford Stakes entries are Libran, One Foot In Heaven, Religify, Single Gaze and Unforgotten.

Unforgotten will be better suited as she steps up in distance later in the her Spring Carnival campaign and showed her staying ability in the Autumn with her win in the Group 1 $1m James Boag’s Premium Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 14, day two of The Championships.

Group 1 winning mare Single Gaze will be having her first run for the Waller stable if she steps out in the Chelmsford Stakes and the 2017 Caulfield Cup runner up has had three barrier trials in preparation for her return to the race track, her latest a fifth in a 1030m trial at Rosehill on August 20.

Other notable entries for the Chelmsford Stakes are the Kris Lees trained Prized Icon, the James Cummings trained It’s Somewhat, Victoria Derby winner Ace High and the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Sedanzer.

Prized Icon has had one run back from a spell for a third in the $100,000 Spring Preview (1400m) at Rosehill on August 11 while It’s Somewhat will be having his first run back since finishing fifth in the Group 3 $125,000 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1630m) at Doomben in May during the 2018 Brisbane Winter Carnival.

The final field for the 2018 Chelmsford Stakes will be released on Wednesday August 29.
