The Darren Weir trained Tradesman is one of seventeen stayers nominated for Ipswich’s premier race during the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.

Tradesman was a winner for the Weir stable in the $40,000 I Am Warrnambool Handicap (1700m) during the 2018 Warrnambool Cup Carnival before being outclassed when ninth to Comin’ Through in the Group 1 $650,000 Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup (2000m) at Doomben on May 19.

The former West Australian galloper then found some better form with a second to the Chris Waller trained Egg Tart in the Group 2 $200,000 Bradford Access Insulation P.J. O’Shea Stakes (2200m) at the Sunshine Coast on June 2.

Waller is well represented in the Ipswich Cup nominations with Dagny, My Giuliano and Tumultuous.

Dagny has found winning form at the right time with a last start victory in the $100,000 Eremein Handicap over 1800m at Rosehill while My Giuliano and Tumultuous have been out of the placings at recent outings.

Mornington trainer John McArdie has nominated Smart As You Think for the Ipswich Cup and the mare has been around the placings with a third and a second at Flemington over 1620m and 2000m before her last start fourth in the P.J. O’Shea Stakes.

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott has entered Ecuador who is coming off a last start ninth to Hopfgarten in the Listed $100,000 The Wayne Wilson (1600m) at Doomben and is struggling to find his best form.

Eagle Farm trainer Chris Munce has two nominations for the Ipswich Cup, three year old Lucky Jackson who a winner two starts back over 2200m at the Sunshine Coast and First Crush whose best recent run was three starts back when third in the $100,000 Toowoomba Cup (2000m) at Toowoomba on April 7.
