Tony McEvoy’s promising filly Oohood is tipped to break her maiden status in the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude 2018 this weekend heading markets on the Caulfield clash.
Set to run as Caulfield Race 2 at 1:05pm (AEDT) on the CF Orr Stakes Day card, Saturday’s Group 2 $200,000 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude (1100m) attracted 13 two-year-olds.
The bulk of the fillies in the race are eyeing a return to the Caulfield track on February 24 in the Group 1 $1.5 million Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) with the double last completed by Catchy (2017).
Favourite in Blue Diamond Prelude betting for the fillies’ edition at $3.20 for the win through Ladbrokes.com.au is Luke Currie’s mount Oohood, the daughter of I Am Invincible drawn well mid-field in barrier six.
A runner-up on debut against the boys in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m) at Sandown last November, Oohood was competitive first-up showing a nice turn of foot to finish under a length back third in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Fillies Preview (1000m) here a fortnight back.
Oohood is the dominant favourite to score her first win on Saturday with just three of her rivals also under $10 in the latest Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude odds online.
McEvoy has a total of three fillies in the Blue Diamond Prelude field this autumn also accepting for his last start Sale winner Al Naifa who Craig Williams partners on Saturday and Lake District Girl drawn in barriers 13 and 10 respectively.
Lake District Girl will be ridden by Damian Lane second-up after the chestnut daughter of Not A Single Doubt finished sixth in the Preview in her maiden run.
Crossing The Abbey occupies the second line of betting, the Helmet filly at $7 to go one better than her lead-up second in the Blue Diamond Preview race.
Third elect at $7.50 on Saturday but draw wide in gate 11 is Pure Elation for Peter & Paul Snowden who won the Blue Diamond Stakes in 2015 with Pride Of Dubai.
Co-trainer Peter Snowden also prepared Blue Diamond winners Earthquake (2014) and Sepoy (2011) as the head horseman for Darley so knows what it takes to prepare a two-year-old for the classic.
Another I Am Invincible filly, Pure Elation debuted in the BD Preview and ran a length away fifth, an effort she is tipped to improve on here with the race experience behind her.
Rounding out the single-figure hopes in the mix are $8 co-fourth favourites, the aforementioned Al Naifa and Downloads.
The David Hayes-led Lindsay Park stable saddle-up Fastnet Rock filly Downloads this season after their success with Catchy 12 months ago.
Downloads had her first run in the Preview and finished a nice fourth, but will need to be improving quickly to win this with dual Blue Diamond Stakes winning hoop Kerrin McEvoy booked for the ride.
Lindsay Park have a total of three in the mix looking to go back-to-back this autumn also represented by Angel and Enbihaar who both come off winning debuts.
Drawn well in gate three, Angel ($12) is another daughter of Fastnet Rock who was impressive on January 4 saluting in an 1118m Geelong race by nearly two lengths ahead of her big test.
Enbihaar had her first start on January 20 at Morphettville Parks and also came away victorious, the Mangus filly a $14 chance to win on Saturday.
