The official Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes 2018 third acceptances have closed and Estijaab is one of the most notable omissions from the Caulfield classic.
Running on Saturday February 24, this season’s Group 1 $1.5 million Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) attracted 84 two-year-olds at third declaration stage.
One of the pre-field favourites in Blue Diamond Stakes betting after the second acceptances, the Hawkes Racing-trained $1.7 million Snitzel filly Estijaab was not paid up for this week despite her debut win at Randwick on January 20.
The stable remain in the mix with six entries including Prince Of Caviar, a son of super start sprinter Black Caviar.
Two juveniles currently head the updated Blue Diamond Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au post-third acceptances for the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival feature with Long Leaf and Oohood at $7 each.
Long Leaf is one of is one of 16 remaining Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes horses for Lindsay Park, the David Hayes-led stable winning the race 12 months ago with gun filly Catchy (2017).
Undefeated in three career starts, Fastnet Rock colt Long Leaf is also a dual black-type winner thanks to his latest turf triumph just last Saturday at Caulfield in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) for colts and geldings.
Also out of that key early Blue Diamond Stakes lead-up, Ollivander (2nd) for Matthew Ellerton & Simon Zahra and the Tony McEvoy-trained Makfi colt Run Naan (3rd) also remain in contention for the Group 1.
Run Naan won his opening two starts including Flemington’s Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) in the spring before the first-up Blue Diamond Preview third.
He is one of a dozen Blue Diamond 2018 third acceptors for Tony McEvoy along with the aforementioned co-early favourite Oohood.
A nicely-bred daughter of I Am invincible, Oohood ran second to Long Leaf on debut at Sandown in the spring before her resuming third in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Fillies Preview (1000m) last weekend.
Winner of that was Lady Horseowner, a non-third acceptor for February’s $1.5 million feature, while the Blue Diamond Fillies Preview runner-up Crossing The Abbey also fails to feature in the entries.
Other notable third acceptors include the promising Mick Price-trained colt High Ratio and Peter & Paul Snowden’s progressive filly Pure Elation.
