Punters are treated to one of the classiest editions of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic 2018 at the Gold Coast Racecourse on Saturday, our insider betting tips and updated odds on the $2 million feature found below.
A capacity line-up of 16 two-year-old sprinters will do battle in the Gold Coast Race 8 when the Restricted Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) runs as the penultimate event on the $10 million Magic Millions Race Day at 3:55pm (AEST).
Magic Millions Classic betting at Ladbrokes.com.au is now all about the fit filly Sunlight who has been well-supported into $4 favouritism.
She came up with gate 15 at the Magic Millions 2YO Classic barrier draw, but will start from 12 with emergencies out.
Either way it looks an ideal position to be in with this race likely to play to the advantage of the backmarkers and this daughter of Zoustar comes off her second win at the track last weekend when dominating proceedings over 1100m with a 4.5 length romp home.
The Magic Millions Classic odds have eased on the other top two in the markets with two sons of Spirit Of Boom, Jonker and Ef Troop, both at $4.80 for the win.
The duo are both undefeated having won their two opening career starts respectively, but will have different runs from gates three (Jonker) and 18 (Ef Troop).
Peter & Paul Snowden’s forgotten Snitzel colt Bondi has eased right out to $18 after drawing the second outside barrier, but the filly Houtzen did it from 16 of 16 last summer so he could prove a bit of value.
Along with the favourite Sunlight, the other genuine Magic Millions Classic market mover is fellow filly Nomothaj ($11 into $9.50) drawn in two but jumping from one with emergencies out.
Prepared by the David Hayes-led Lindsay Park stable, this chestnut youngster could prove a danger first-up having defeated Sunlight (3rd) on debut in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial (1000m) at Flemington back in October.
So will the best in betting salute or is there a blowout Magic Millions 2YO Classic result pending this season from the likes of the Matt Cumani-trained Anthemoessa ($26) who has arrived at the Gold Coast in top order or Lee Curtis’s daughter of Epaulette Meryl ($14) coming off a win in the Group 3 B.J. McLachlan Plate (1200m)?
Earlier in the week we published a full Magic Millions 2YO Classic 2018 form guide, our insider tips below based on the facts and stats uncovered.
Would have preferred her earlier odds when the punters shied away from her post-barriers, but seems everyone has clued on that the gate actually works in her favour. Either way, sticking with this year’s favourite who deserves her spot at the top of the odds following the ultra-impressive Gold Coast win here last weekend. She is on the quick back-up but is rock-hard fit, undefeated at the track and she’ll settle well before burning them all off late.
Plenty still to like about another likely backmarker Ef Troop whose wide alley isn’t the disadvantage some think. Brisbane-trained by Tony Gollan and by sire-of-the-moment Spirit Of Boom. Two-from-two heading into this, has trialled well at the Gold Coast and his latest win in mid-December saw him blitz his rivals by over five lengths in the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes (1100m). Some of the more recent lead-up form shapes-up as a bit iffy, so happy to tip this gelding to perform well fresh.
Good price offered on this progressive Sydney-trained filly who gave her sire Epaulette his maiden stakes win on December 30 winning Doomben’s Group 3 BJ McLachlan. That form has held up on Magic Millions Day a number of times over the years and with the right run from the barrier (5), she presents as a genuine place chance.
