There are just 11 runners in this autumn’s Group 1 $500,000 Futurity Stakes (1400m) and the line-up is dominated by a trio for last year’s winning trainer Darren Weir.

Weir will saddle-up the favourite in Futurity Stakes betting in 2018 with his Japanese import Brave Smash looking to continue the gun record of top fancies in the race with six saluting in the last eight years.

Drawn out in gate nine with dual Futurity Stakes winning hoop Craig Williams in the saddle, Tosen Phantom five-year-old Brave Smash sits top of the Futurity Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au quoted at $3.60 to improve on his lead-up third at the same track and distance in the Group 1 Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m).

The Orr Stakes has held-up in the Futurity Stakes results more than any other lead-up in the past 20 years including three horses doing the double in the past five years.

Stablemate Tosen Stardom is the equal $5.50 second favourite after his luckless run for 11th in the CF Orr first-up that he can atone for, along with the Mick Price-trained three-year-old Mighty Boss who ran seven in the same event a fortnight back.

Weir’s third runner, the returning Humidor is at $8 for the win just longer than the early Futurity Stakes market mover Showtime ($11 into $7.50) who has been heavily backed by the punters to go one better than a second in Sydney’s Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m).

Earlier in the week we provided a comprehensive Futurity Stakes 2018 Form Guide & Betting Preview, our insider tips below based on the race facts and historical data uncovered there.

Our 2018 Futurity Stakes Trifecta Tip is #3 Brave Smash from #6 Mr Sneaky and #11 Showtime

1st

#3 Brave Smash ($3.60)

The Futurity Stakes is a favourites’ race and happy to tip Brave Smash to prove his class with a breakthrough Group 1 win for the punters. Williams comes aboard having ridden the five-year-old for a flat fifth first-up in the Australia Stakes and will be keen to atone here after John Allen rode the entire for his neck away third in the CF Orr Stakes. Same track / distance puts Brave Smash right in the mix again. Quite a few of his rivals will be needing a mile, but he can get the job done and add to the nice recent record of favourites. Yet to finish out of the money at Caulfield (3:0-2-1) and think he can get the win done here.

2nd

#6 Mr Sneaky ($11)

Good price on offer for the Anthony Freedman-trained High Chaparral gelding who is drawn one the inside of Brave Smash. Looks the improver out of a luckless CF Orr eighth when only 1.2 lengths beaten. Defeated Brave Smash before that when runner-up in the Australia Stakes and is Group 1 placed at the track / distance when second in the Sir Rupert Clarke in the spring. Four-year-olds have a top record in the Futurity and he looks the best of the age, boasts the highest Win Rate (76%) of the runners and has good 1400m form to boot (5:1-2-1).

3rd

#11 Showtime ($7.50)

Of the two three-year-olds in the mix it is Caulfield Guineas winner Mighty Boss that is shorter, but the money is starting to come in for this Team Hawkes-trained Snitzel colt who looks on track for a 1400m run second-up after his good second to Trapeze Artist in Rosehill’s Expressway at the start of the month. Fitter here and fancy a place for a bit of value.
