A host of the early favourites for next month’s Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas 2018 are engaged to face off at Doomben Racecourse on Saturday in the Gold Edition Plate field.
A key early lead-up to the Restricted Listed $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) on January 13, this weekend’s $100,000 Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m) features a class field of 12 three-year-old summer hopefuls.
Pre-field favourite in Magic Millions Guineas betting at Ladbrokes.com.au for next month’s Gold Coast feature at $5.50 and heading Gold Edition Plate odds for Saturday at a short $2.60 and firming is the Gregory Hickman-trained Pierata.
In the Brisbane set weights sprint on the weekend, the in-form and well-bred Pierro colt jumps from barrier four with dual Melbourne Cup winning jockey Corey Brown to ride.
Brown has ridden the Sydney-based youngster for four of his five career starts including the first-up win by nearly three lengths at the same track / distance as the Gold Edition Plate on December 2.
After that impressive effort the bookies are tipping Pierata to keep the summer sprint wins coming leading-up to Magic Millions Day.
The other best in futures 2018 Gold Coast Magic Millions Guineas betting running in the Gold Edition Plate on Saturday is the Bjorn Baker-trained Goodfella ($11).
Despite drawing wide for the weekend in barrier 11 the Snitzel colt is the $6.50 second favourite returning to the sunshine state for the first time since his fourth in last year’s $2 million Magic Millions Classic (1200m) behind Houtzen as a juvenile.
A back-to-back Randwick winner in October, Goodfella is out to improve on his 13th down the Flemington straight on November 4 in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) and faces a far easier class of rivals here off a freshen-up.
It is a tight Gold Edition Plate betting market this Brisbane Summer Racing Carnival with a further three single-figure hopefuls in the mix including Debonairly ($7) with the outside alley to overcome.
The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Snitzel filly led all-the-way at Ballarat on November 25 to salute in the Magic Millions Clockwise Classic (1100m) in the wet and has the early gate speed to cross from her double-digit alley on the weekend.
Tim Clark rides the progressive chestnut who is also being kept safe in all-in Magic Millions 3YO Guineas odds for the Gold Coast at $15.
The other dangers looking at the Gold Edition Plate markets are Whypeeo ($7.50) and Super Ex ($7.50) drawn in gates six and eight respectively.
Jeff Lloyd partners the Toby Edmonds-trained I Am Invincible gelding from the Gold Coast Whypeeo on Saturday, the horse last seen placing under a length away third as the beaten odds-on favourite at Canterbury on December 1.
Prior to that he blitzed an 1100m handicap at the Doomben track by three lengths on the back of a home track win over the same distance.
Super Ex is first-up off a three and a half month break, the Mark Newnham-trained Excites colt last seen winning his third on the trot over 1300m at Royal Randwick.
