The official Melbourne Cup Field is announced this afternoon but first punters are treated to an all-Group race program for Victoria Derby Day 2017, scratchings and the latest Flemington track report detailed below.

It is a partly cloudy day in Melbourne for VRC Derby Day and with zero chance of rain ruining the opening Melbourne Cup Carnival meeting, the current Good (3) Flemington track rating is set to stay across the afternoon.

Derby Day racing kicks off at 11:45am (AEDT) with the bumper nine race program for racing purists continuing right through until the last at 5:20pm (AEDT).

After the Victoria Derby Day races have been run and won, the Victorian Racing Club (VRC) officially announce the 24 horse 2017 Melbourne Cup Field and do a live Melbourne Cup barrier draw from Flemington.

There are four Group 1 races to take place before then however starting with the 2017 Coolmore Stud Stakes (Race 5) where the capacity field remains intact and market are wide open.

The 2017 Myer Classic (Race 6) has seen Cool Passion come out and Ellicazoom take her place.

Flemington Race 7 is the day’s marquee race, the sole emergency Beachwood (6) officially out leaving the original 16 three-year-old stayers to do battle in the 2017 Victoria Derby field including narrow $6.50 favourite Ace High.

Group 1 racing at Flemington finishes off with Race 8 – the Kennedy Mile 2017 field still featuring the 14 final acceptors led by the Darren Weir-trained Toorak Handicap winner Tosen Stardom ($6.50).
