There are eleven starters set to line-up in Caulfield Race 7 at 3:50pm (AEDT) on Saturday afternoon for this season’s intriguing edition of the Group 1 $1 million Ladbrokes Stakes (2000m).

Heading the Ladbrokes Caulfield Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au at a steady quote of $3 is the 2017 Caulfield Cup-bound Bonneval who also leads all-in betting for Saturday week’s mile and a half classic.

This Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman-trained mare from across the Tasman is flying and is tipped to salute in her seventh straight race.

Last time out she made it two-from-two in Melbourne as a four-year-old beating Hartnell in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m).

She is fit, even better over this distance and having her final Caulfield Cup tune-up so looks a pretty deserving favourite still on the improve.

Hartnell gets the chance to turn the tables also getting up over his more preferred distance four runs into this spring campaign.

The Godolphin-raced seven-year-old has disappointed the punters twice since the first-up Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes win, second in the Makybe Diva Stakes and Underwood.

He occupies the second line of Ladbrokes Caulfield Stakes betting for the rematch with Bonneval paying $3.40 and how he performs will determine whether he meets her again in a weeks’ time in the Caulfield Cup field.

Earlier in the week we published our comprehensive 2017 Ladbrokes Stakes Form Guide & Betting Preview, out racing selections on the million dollar showdown now listed below.

1st

#11 Bonneval ($3)

The winning streak might come to an end, but happy to tip the fairy tale to continue with Bonneval making it seven straight in this. She is a quality mare and leads Caulfield Cup betting for next weekend. Hasn’t done a thing wrong this prep and the Underwood Stakes win here was good. A dual Oaks winner so the extra distance only works to her advantage. Widely drawn, but went around them first-up in the Valley for the Dato’ win so don’t think that’s an issue. She’s still improving so will be fitter again third-up and hasn’t lost in any of her starts at 2000m or further.

2nd

#2 Gailo Chop ($9.50)

Really liked the Underwood Stakes run for third from this Darren Weir-trained French import who was on the pace. Was that his peak run? Think he is also one with scope for improvement at a nice price. Is five-from-eight over the 2000m so should enjoy the distance, including a Group 1 during the Melbourne Cup Carnival last year. Don’t discount.

3rd

#1 Hartnell ($3.40)

Hartnell has been thereabouts for the two seconds since the first-up success and could just come out and win now he gets to 2000m. Don’t think there will be much in the finish and tipping that Underwood Stakes form to stack up. Definite chance.
