Two early scratchings from the last on Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas Day leaves just nine sprinters in the mix for the Schillaci Stakes 2017, betting tips and updated odds on the sprint showdown detailed below.

Set to run as Race 10 at 5:45pm (AEDT) on Saturday afternoon at Caulfield Racecourse, Ball Of Muscle (10) and I Thought So (9) are both out of the Group 2 $400,000 Schillaci Stakes (1100m).

Of the remaining short-distance specialists in Schillaci Stakes betting, the bookies at Ladbrokes.com.au have Sheidel ($3.50) as the one to beat and no doubt this mare has claims.

Mark Zahra rides the six-year-old from the outside alley for the Lindsay Park stable and she has the stellar She Will Reign form to follow.

In the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at The Valley Gary Portelli’s Golden Slipper winning filly won her three-year-old debut and now She Will Reign races in the $10 million The Everest (1200m) in Sydney on Saturday.

Sheidel was third past the post beaten under a length and getting up to 1100m in this easier race has her the deserving favourite looking to add to her ace Caulfield track record (5-3-1-0) and strike rate over the distance (8-5-1-0).

What beats the favourite? The other best in the Schillaci Stakes odds include market mover Super Cash ($4.80) drawn to win first-up and Rock Magic ($6.50) who will improve second-up off a fourth in the Moir Stakes.

So will the best in betting salute for the punters in the Schillaci Stakes results or is there value to be had tipping an upset from the likes of the former sprint star Lankan Rupee ($10) or the Darren Weir-trained fresh specialist First Among Equals ($7)?

#11 Super Cash ($4.80)

The money is coming for Andrew Noblet’s resuming Written Tycoon mare and we are happy to follow the punters’ trail. She has outstanding form fresh (4-3-0-1) and is first-up at Caulfield where she has won two of her four starts. 1100m is her go (6-3-1-1) so she can easily atone for the mid-field Robert Sangster Stakes run in Adelaide during the winter. Did it tough from a wide barrier that day and was only four lengths off the winner. Down the Flemington straight in the Newmarket Handicap she was eighth but just three lengths off Redkirk Warrior on the back of her Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) at this track / distance defeating Group 1 winners I Am A Star (2^nd) and ‘The Grey Flash’ Chautauqua (3^rd). Now that’s killer form.

#2 Rock Magic ($6.50)

This Perth-trained veteran is an eight-year-old but is racing with plenty of zest still. Back home went back-to-back in the winter before resuming in the Moir Stakes when 1.6 lengths off She Will Reign. The extra 100m will suit and he gets the chance to turn the tables on Sheidel who beat him home that night. His second-up record is solid (9-2-1-2) so can impress at a good price.

#9 Sheidel ($3.50)

Sheidel might just come out and fly home first for the punters. Third-up she’ll be looking to salute and break the winning drought. Won the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) here in February first-up before the Newmarket fourth down the straight. Usually better at the very start of her campaigns, but not discounting her.
