Due to jump at 2:40pm (AEST) as Royal Randwick Race 5, this year’s Group 1 $500,000 Flight Stakes (1600m) has five of the 11 hopefuls under double-figures to take out the mile showdown.

Leading the Flight Stakes odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au at a firming $2.80 is Alizee out wide in barrier 10 with Glyn Schofield retaining the ride on the well-bred daughter of Sepoy.

Last time out Alizee enjoyed the step-up to 1400m for her solid Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) victory and she’s had the two weeks between runs, looking prime for the mile.

The danger is perennial runner-up Champagne Cuddles ($4.20) for Bjorn Baker who backed-up from her Tea Rose second to finish runner-up behind Trapeze Artist in last weekend’s Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m).

Not A Single Doubt filly Champagne Cuddles needs to handle the quick turnaround and wide barrier, but is going too well to ignore according to the bookmakers.

Earlier in the week we published a comprehensive Flight Stakes 2017 Form Guide & Betting Preview, our exclusive tips based on the facts and stats uncovered there detailed below.

Our 2017 Flight Stakes Trifecta Tip is #1 Champagne Cuddles from #4 Cellargirl and #8 Pandemonium

1st

#1 Champagne Cuddles ($4.20)

She’ll need to be gutsy to finally breakthrough after so many close placings and handle to handle her third run in as many Saturdays, but think there’s something pretty special about this girl. Furious Stakes second to Formality was by a nostril flare, Tea Rose Stakes run was good and then the Golden Rose second saw her finish the best of a good field behind the runaway winner. If that hasn’t taken too much out of her she’s a livewire chance to handle this step-up to a mile. Needs to get around them from the outside alley, but she’s got a 100% place rate, winning form at Randwick and ticks plenty of boxes.

2nd

#4 Cellargirl ($6.50)

Could not have been more impressed by the Sydney debut of this Queensland-trained daughter of More Than Ready who was just over two lengths back third in the Tea Rose Stakes. She’s been showing plenty at home in Brisbane and can improve again with the two weeks between runs, stepping up in distance from the ideal barrier four draw.

3rd

#8 Pandemonium ($7.50)

Gai Waterhouse factor, the trainer chasing her 10th Flight Stakes victory and her third on the trot after the success of Speak Fondly (2015) and Global Glamour (2016). Joao Moreira comes on the daughter of Sebring who is out to atone for the second last (9th) in the Tea Rose Stakes. She was just under five lengths beaten after an earlier Warwick Farm win over a mile. Will be improved and back up to 1600m is a danger, likely trying to lead all-the-way.
