2017 Golden Pendant Nominations Feature Daysee Doom

Ron Quinton’s ultra-consistent mare Daysee Doom is one of the headline Golden Pendant 2017 nominations taken for the key support act at Rosehill on Saturday for Golden Rose Stakes Day.

The Group 2 $400,000 Golden Pendant (1400m) drew 15 fillies and mares at nomination stage on Monday.

Pre-field Golden Pendant odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are a close affair with a host of possible runners battling for favouritism including Domesday five-year-old Daysee Doom.

Daysee Doom has gone from strength to strength over the past 12 months including her close Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) win over this distance at Scone back in mid-May.

First-up a fortnight ago at Rosehill Gardens she resumed in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) and was only two lengths beaten when third to Ravi in the traditional Golden Pendant lead-up race.

Daysee Doom is the best of the Golden Pendant nominees out of the Shearco Stakes and has opened at an equal $5 in futures betting for the Group 2 win this weekend along with Omei Sword from the Chris Waller stables.

Waller has two livewire entries for the race on Saturday including High Chaparral four-year-old Omei Sword who was runner-up to Astern in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at the same meeting last Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.

The promising mare hasn’t won a race since the Silver Shadow Stakes last August and is out to improve on sixth in the Sheraco Stakes.

Waller’s other possible contender is fellow four-year-old Dawn Wall, the daughter of Fastnet Rock up in class after a close second over 1400m at Randwick on September 2 in a Benchmark 95.

Dawn Wall boasts a 50% winning strike rate (8-4-1-0) and chases her first win since the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) in Queensland over the winter.

The bookies are also taking no early chances with Bonny O’Reilly and Dixie Blossoms.

The Bjorn Baker-trained Bonny O’Reilly was a first-up winner over 1200m at Rosehill in late August.

She has an imposing record at the track of four wins from five starts suffering her only loss at the course on August 9 when two and a half lengths away fifth in the Sheraco Stakes.

Dixie Blossoms meanwhile is the other entry prepared by Quinton and is second-up on Saturday if accepted into the Golden Pendant field.

She is back against her own kind following a brave run for fourth a fortnight ago behind Deploy in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m).

During the autumn the five-year-old daughter of Street Sense was in outstanding form including her third to Foxplay in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Randwick when only a length beaten on Day 2 of ‘The Championships’.

Other standout Golden Pendant entries this season include the in-form Team Hawkes-trained Theo Marks Stakes third placegetter Euro Angel and the Kris Lees-trained Danish Twist looking to return to form.

See below for the full Golden Pendant 2017 nominations before heading to Ladbrokes.com.au for the best all-in odds on all the key Saturday races this week.
