A sizzling display of sustained speed saw the in-form Deploy score an all the way win in the Group 2 $200,000 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill today.
2015 Theo Marks winner Winx might be the glamour horse of Australian racing at the moment, but the Gerald Ryan trained Deploy stole the show today by recording his second track record in his last two outings.
Deploy ran 1.08.06s in winning the Group 3 $150,000 Suttons Show County Quality (1200m) at Randwick on August 19 and smashed the Rosehill 1300m record today by stopping the clock at 1.14.92s in the Theo Marks Stakes.
Winning jockey Josh Parr had no hesitation in sending the heavily backed $2.80 favourite straight to the front and the section was over as heads turned for home.
Deploy was able to romp home by four lengths over the Chris Waller trained Egg Tart ($5) who was doing her best work at the finish with Euro Angel ($9) ending up in third position.
Ryan said that Deploy was absolutely flying at the moment and he had plenty of options for the brilliant five year old for the remainder of the Spring Carnival.
“He is a horse that doesn’t know when to lie down. He is in great form at the moment,” Ryan said.
“After he worked here on Tuesday morning I thought that he had improved.”
“You wouldn’t think a horse could run a record at Randwick and then back up three weeks later and do it again and sort of improve off of it.”
“He is just flying.”
“There are plenty of options for him.”
Ryan said that the Group 1 $500,000 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on October 1 could be one of those options.
