It is a fine day in the greater Sydney metropolitan region and the Royal Randwick course has been rated in the ‘Good 3’ range after the penetrometer returned a reading of 4.98 this morning.

Strong fields have been confirmed for all nine races on 2017 Chelmsford Stakes Day and the action will officially get underway with the running of the ANZ Bloodstock News Handicap (1300m) at 12:10pm.

There is plenty to like about several runners in Races 2 and 3, while another smart field of country horses has been confirmed for this weekend’s Highway Handicap (Race 4), including Last Try Wins and the talented Count Cumani.

Only four sprinters remain in the field for the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1100m) at 2:35pm, however both Redzel and Spieth are seeking a berth in the $10 million The Everest later this season and are both primed for big first-up runs.

Seven classy fillies will step out in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m), while Chelmsford Stakes Day undoubtedly reaches its peak when Winx faces eleven other rivals in the feature race at 3:50pm.

The day’s final black type race will be contested at 4:30pm when an open field steps out for the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m), while Chelmsford Stakes Day will officially draw to a close following the Schweppes Handicap (1400m) and 5:10pm.
