Winning jockey Tim Clark has no doubts that Addictive Nature is a future Group 1 performer after the Savabeel colt scored an all the way win in the Group 3 $150,000 Monaco Cup – Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) at Rosehill today.
Addictive Nature ($3.10 favourite) quickly took over the top spot and was held together by Clark in front before having to dig deep to hold off the determined finish of Assimilate ($5) who had come from the tail of the field on the home turn.
Third placegetter Astoria ($11) tried hard in the straight for Tye Angland.
The lightly raced Bjorn Baker trained Addictive Nature was only having his third race start today but Clark has no worries that he will able to be competitive at Group 1 level in the future.
“He is a really progressive colt. He has a very big future.” Clark said.
“He got attacked the whole way. Working the whole race and be able to kick and hang on is the sign of a top liner.”
“I think he is probably a Group 1 horse. Mentally he is not there yet. Once he learns to do everything right, he is a pretty smart horse.”
Baker is now looking to running Addictive Nature in the Group 2 $200,000 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on September 9 and then possibly onto the Group 1 $1m De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on September 23.
