Winx wins first barrier trial at Randwick
Champion mare Winx has been undefeated from her last seventeen starts but was able to win her first barrier trail at Randwick today.

Trainer Chris Waller is aiming Winx towards winning her third Group 1 $3m Ladbrokes Cox Plate (2040m) at The Valley on October 28 and she is now well into her Spring Carnival preparation with a win over 1000m today which followed on from a third in a 900m trial at Randwick on July 24.
Waller has selected the Group 2 $250,000 Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on August 19 as Winx’s first 2017 Spring Carnival appearance on her way to winning a third straight Cox Plate and if she can achieve that the mighty mare will equal the legendary Kingston Town’s record of three consecutive wins in the weight for age championship.
Regular rider Hugh Bowman had Winx out of the barriers smartly and settled her midfield on the inside just behind the leader Stampede.
In the straight Bowman kept Winx to the inside and squeezed past Stampede and with a little bit of urging, Winx was able to extend and score a solid three quarters of a length win over the Team Snowden trainer Pariah with Happy Clapper in third spot.
Winx is currently the $1.50 favourite for the 2017 Cox Plate at The Valley at Ladbrokes.com.au
