Trainer Chris Waller has underlined the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) as the likely major target for Egg Tart, who has returned to the Rosehill horseman’s stables following a short break.
Egg Tart has been a standout for Waller in 2017 and will is amidst an impressive winning streak which now spans six; highlighted by two outstanding and dominant wins at the highest level in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) and Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) most recently.
Waller told AAP that he is thrilled with the benefits that the Sebring filly has taken from her time away from racing and is confident that she will furnish into a serious 2017 Caulfield Cup horse, with other targets also in mind this time in.
“She raced in four states. She went from Sydney to Melbourne to Adelaide and then Queensland and won in all four places,” Waller said.
“The Epsom is also could be the race for her. We will look at the Caulfield Cup but it’s a hard race for fillies early in their four-year-old season.”
Egg Tart completed several smart trials prior to making her competitive debut and stamped herself as one to watch when she ran fourth in Newcastle maiden race over 1250m on November 5th last year.
Progressing to third behind Flow in the TAB.com.au Maiden (1400m) three weeks later, Egg Tart was sent to the paddock after claiming her first race win in the TAB Rewards Maiden (1550m) on November 30th; hitting the line close to four lengths ahead of closest rival Silent Warrior.
Resuming this year for a smart win in the Total Fabrication Services Plate (1300m) on March 11th, the filly out of Mrs Windsor found the line more than three lengths in the clear in both the TAB BM67 (1400m) and Auckland Racing Club Trophy (1600m), leading into the Australasian Oaks.
Egg Tart is currently tied on the second line of early 2017 Caulfield Cup betting at Ladbrokes.com.au, alongside the likes of Articus and Fame Game at a generous $21 quote.
