Seven horses remain in contention for Saturday’s July Sprint (1200m) at Royal Randwick; offering punters plenty of value from a betting perspective and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Felines remains an outright $3.70 favourite in 2017 July Sprint betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of market mover Reldas ($4.80), That’s A Good Idea ($5) and Kudero ($6).
Will Felines justify favouritism and win the 2017 July Sprint, or will one of her talented rivals post an upset?
Classy sprinter Reldas has posted a number of typically classy results in 2017, is drawn ideally in barrier 2 and will have conditions to suit in the July Sprint. Resuming for fourth in the Listed Bob Hoysted Handicap (1000m) on March 4th, the Testa Rossa gelding ran second in each of the Listed Abell Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 DC McKay Stakes (1100m), but was completely luckless when seventh in the GJK Facility Servicers Handicap (1200m) on June 17th. In-form hoop Corey Brown will take the ride on Reldas, who will be right in the finish of the July Sprint.
Felines has been a strong and consistent performer amongst classy company this year, but will return from a freshen-up in the July Sprint and may need the run. Fourth in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) first-up in March, the Conatus mare ran fifth in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) before returning to winning form in the Hawkesbury Gold Rush (1100m). Having finished fifth in the Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m) and the Listed June Stakes (1100m) at her two most recent starts, Felines has the notable advantage of Hugh Bowman in the saddle and has trialled well through recent weeks.
That’s A Good Idea has not been seen at the races since he savaged the line for second in the Hawkesbury Gold Rush, but he is drawn well and his class is sure to count for plenty. Posting a career total of nine wins and thirteen minors through forty-one starts, the Flying Spur gelding has performed extremely well through a pair of Sydney barrier trials in June and July and is primed for a big first-up performance.
