Capacity Eye Liner Stakes Field Confirmed

A capacity group of sprinters has been confirmed to line up on the 1350m course at Ipswich on Saturday, following the completion and release of the 2017 Listed Eye Liner Stakes field and barrier draw.

The Virginian was unlucky to miss a run in the Stradbroke Handicap last weekend and should prove extremely tough to beat when he takes his position in the Eye Liner Stakes field.

Third in the Brisbane Winter Carnival’s showpiece race in 2015, the Hinchinbrook gelding resumed this time for a smart win in the Listed Chief De Beers Quality (1050m) on May 20th, before running a credible fourth in the Group 2 Moreton Cup (1200m) a fortnight ago.

Sure to relish a step up in distance, The Virginian will leave from the ideal barrier 2 and is likely to be partnered by leading hoop Jeff Lloyd in the race.

Snippets Land has steadily built to the task this time in, but will need luck in running on Saturday after drawing into the Eye Liner Stakes field in the outside barrier.

The Snippetson gelding is a proven performer in Queensland black type races and at the distance, having won the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m) during an impressive 2016 winter campaign.

Having returned from a freshen-up to finish sixth in the BRC Sprint this time, Snippets Land hit the line well for fifth in the Moreton Cup last time out and is another horse who should simply enjoy the conditions of the Eye Liner Stakes.

Group 1 placegetter Shiraz is sure to carry benefit into the Eye Liner Stakes and could receive the run of the race from the ideal barrier 6.

Producing a number of typically smart results through a summer campaign, including a close second behind Ecuador in the Listed Carrington Stakes (1400m), the Zariz gelding worked to the line to finish fifth in the Octagonal Handicap (1400m) on June 3rd.

James Orman will take the ride on Shiraz in the Eye Liner Stakes, but the horse will have to overcome a race-high 59kgs.

Godolphin will launch a two-pronged attack in the featured sprint after trainer Darren Beadman confirmed both Federal and Handfast in the Eye Liner Stakes field.

Federal is yet to live up to his potential this time in, but is undoubtedly faced with his best opportunity of returning to winning form in the Eye Liner Stakes.

Third in the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup (1400m) on May 6th, the Medaglia D’oro gelding has since placed seventh in both the BRC Sprint and Moreton Cup.

Handfast has form around several notable runners this time in, but he failed to handle the late pace in the Moreton Cup last start and will need to improve if he is any chance here.
