Byrne wraps up winning double on Bidii Babe in Bright Shadow

In-form jockey Jim Byrne wrapped up an early winning double at Doomben today with Bidii Babe winning the Listed $100,000 QA Hotel Bright Shadow (1200m).

Byrne won earlier in the day on The Virginian in the Listed $100,000 IPG Marketing Solutions Chief De Beers (1050m) and is still celebrating his win on Redzel in last week’s Group 1 $700,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1200m).

Byrne settled Bidii Babe ($9.50) in the second half of the field and the Robert Heathcote trained mare was able power to the line down the middle of the track to beat the $3.60 favourite Untamed Diamond.

Corey Brown set the pace on Dee Nine Elle ($14) who battled on strongly in the straight on hold on for third spot.

Byrne rode Bidii Babe when she was a first up fourth to With A Promise in the Listed $150,000 Silk Stocking (1200m) at the Gold Coast two weeks ago and knew that she would go better today with that run under her belt.

“I said to Rob after her last run that it was such a strong effort and she will be better at her next start,” Byrne said.

“We didn’t anticipate getting a wet track today but she got the job done.”

Heathcote agreed with Byrne that Bidii Babe might have been one run short at the Gold Coast and now that she has broken through at Listed level he thinks she can go on and win higher Stakes races.

“A Stakes winning mare and on the up” Heathcore said
