The 2017 Robert Sangster Stakes steals the show at Morphettville Racecourse on Saturday in Adelaide, betting tips and the latest Group 1 racing odds on the sprint classic found below.

Running as Morphettville Race 7 at 4:04pm (ACST), this season’s $1 million Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) has attracted a capacity, talent-rich field of fillies and mares.

Despite the bumper size of the field there are currently just three runners sitting under double-figures in the latest Robert Sangster Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Narrow $4.80 favourite is the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained English who is out to returning to the Group 1 winning form that saw her win last year’s All Aged Stakes in Sydney as a filly.

The now four-year-old comes off a sixth in that same Randwick feature over 1400m, before which she finished an excellent second to Chautauqua after being run down late in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m).

Back over those metres, if she puts in a similar performance up on the speed, she could be hard to run down.

The other best in Robert Sangster Stakes betting include last year’s runner-up Sheidel ($5.50) for the Lindsay Park operation, market mover Super Cash ($7.50) who beat home Chautauqua (3^rd) two back in the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) and runner-up in that same race I Am A Star ($8.50) out to be the first three-year-old to win since Rostova (2010).

#5 Viddora ($14)

There looks to be plenty of value in this year’s race and happy to back flying Lloyd Kennewell-trained local four-year-old Viddora who comes off a string of excellent summer – autumn runs. At the Morphettville track this daughter of I Am Invincible boasts four wins and a second from nine starts, including the Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes (1100m) last time out. That’s her pet distance no doubt and she’s yet to win over 1200m from four starts, but tipping that to change from the gun barrier (3) on the weekend in an upset.

#3 Secret Agenda ($13)

Last start Group 2 Randwick winner over this distance, Secret Agenda has work to do from out wide here but is a genuine chance for three-time Robert Sangster Stakes winning trainer Mick Price. Three of the past five winners of this race came off a lead-up win and that fits, plus she’s the right age as a four-year-old. Right distance and jockey (Damien Oliver), just needs luck from the draw and she’s in the finish.

#2 Sheidel ($5.50)

The ‘Magic Man’ Joao Moreira is on the second favourite in betting and that’s a big plus for the five-year-old mare out to atone for the close sixth in the William Reid at Moonee Valley. She was runner-up in this race 12 months ago and has stellar 1200m form (10-4-2-0) including the Winterbottom Stakes second in Perth last November. Oakleigh Plate winner in February when Moreira was last aboard her and is ticking plenty of boxes.
