The Lindsay Park-trained Faatinah is tipped to relish a return trip to Adelaide on Saturday and sits top of the latest DC McKay Stakes 2017 field and betting markets.

Running as Morphettville Race 4 on the Robert Sangster Stakes Day line-up, this year’s $175,000 Group 3 D C McKay Stakes (1100m) has attracted a dozen runners.

A possible lead-up into the $1 million Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) back at the track on May 20, the DC McKay Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au currently have Nicconi gelding Faatinah installed as the firming $4.20 favourite.

Things went amiss last time out at Caulfield for his unplaced run in the Bel Esprit Stakes, prior to which he had two Group 1 runs including a second behind Sheidel at Caulfield in the Oakleigh Plate.

A return to Morphettville should sit Faatinah, to be ridden by Joao Moreira on Saturday, as he has won two of his three starts at the track to date including last year’s Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) at the same meeting.

He backed-up from that to cross a close fifth behind Black Heart Bart in The Goodwood as a $41 roughie and could earn another shot at the Group 1 this Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival with the right run on the weekend.

Close second pick in DC McKay Stakes betting at $4.60 is the flying Bassett chasing a fourth straight win.

Drawn in barrier seven with Damien Oliver to ride, the Mick Price-trained Victorian visitor has won his past two starts in Listed company over 1200m and has huge claims to keep the winning streak going with an on pace ride at Morphettville.

A further three other sprinters are under double figures for the win including Casino Wizard and Tuscan Sling at an equal $8, drawn alongside each other in barriers three and four respectively.

Mount Gambier trainer Lee Creek saddles-up Casino Wizard who chases his first win since the Listed Matrice Stakes (1200m) success first-up here in mid-April.

His latest run was a good fourth beaten just two lengths by the winner Viddora in the Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes (1100m) on April 22 and the six-year-old will enjoy another run at the same track and distance here coming back in weight.

Tuscan Sling gets in on the 54kg minimum and Dean Yendall is booked to partner the Darren Weir-trained Danehill Dancer mare.

The six-year-old has had three starts at Morphettville without success and comes off a lead-up sixth behind Riziz in the Listed Oakbank Stakes (1100m) in mid-April.

Rounding out the single-figure fancies at $9 is then Kaepernick for Team Hawkes, but there could be value in a longer priced chance such as the rails-drawn Thermal Current ($11) or the Richard Jolly-trained Karlovasi ($16) coming off a win over Viddora in black-type company from April 1.
