Darren Weir’s ultra-consistent Victorian raider Ken’s Dream has opened narrow favourite in Euclase Stakes 2017 betting in Adelaide this weekend.
Closing the Robert Sangster Stakes Day card as Morphettville Race 8 at 4:44pm (ACST) on Saturday, this season’s $500,000 Euclase Stakes (1200m) field features 17 starters chasing the half-a-million dollars in prize money.
The latest Euclase Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au have the top two rated youngsters dominating the markets with Ken’s Dream the $4.60 favourite over the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Sydney visitor Defcon ($4.80).
Dream Ahead colt Ken’s Dream has run top two in all four runs this prep and was last seen finishing runner-up in the VOBIS Gold Sprint (1200m) at Caulfield on April 22.
He has five top two runs from six starts over the 1200m Euclase Stakes distance, is drawn a treat in barrier five for Saturday and has Dean Yendall back in the saddle after the two combined for a win on April 8 in Melbourne.
The big danger looking at the close Euclase Stakes betting markets this Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival is Defcon out to overcome his wide barrier 13 drawn with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle.
McEvoy replaces Blake Shinn aboard the Choisir colt second-up, dual Group 3 winner Defcon last seen finishing fifth to Derryn at Randwick on April 8 in the Group 2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m).
Despite the size of the Euclase Stakes field, just one of the other three-year-olds in the mix is at single-figures for the win with early market mover Fuhryk ($6).
Craig Williams has the ride on the classy Lindsay Park-trained Star Witness filly who is out to improve on her 12th to Hey Doc at Flemington on March 4 in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m).
She will relish the drop back in class and distance on the weekend having enjoyed four wins from five starts at 1200m to date including her two length success at Caulfield on February 11 in the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes with Williams aboard.
With a host of other genuine chances at double-figures there could be value to be had in this year’s Euclase Stakes.
Some of the other standout youngsters in the mix include the rails-drawn Danny O’Brien-trained Denman filly Merriest ($10) coming off a Caulfield third from last weekend, stakes winning Bel Esprit filly Sweet Sherry ($10), the local Gordon Richards-trained Bushranger gelding Benz ($10) who has three wins from four starts over the distance to date and the lightly-raced Toy Boy ($13) having just his third career run.
