A field of potential Queensland Oaks-bound fillies face off in the Princess Stakes 2017 field at Doomben Racecourse this weekend with betting on the black-type led by Candika.
Set to run as Doomben Race 3 at 1:17pm (AEST) as one of four black-type Brisbane races on the Saturday card, this year’s $100,000 Listed Princess Stakes (1600m) has attracted a dozen three-year-old fillies.
Drawn the inside alley with Damian Browne to ride from barrier one is the current $2.60 favourite in Princess Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au Candika.
The Steven O’Dea-trained daughter of Sebring won back-to-back Brisbane races earlier in the autumn before a last start third to Deep Image over 1350m on Easter Saturday.
Candika is on the quick seven-day back-up for the stakes’ race this weekend and the bookies are tipping her to handle the step-up to a mile.
Hot on her heels in the Princess Stakes odds are then Our Beebee ($4.20) and Siren’s Fury ($4.60) both drawn wide out in barriers 11 and 10 respectively.
Toowoomba trainer Rex Lipp has ambitions to set Our Beebee for the $500,000 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 3 and will get a gauge of her staying potential from experienced hoop Michael Cahill after Saturday’s race.
Jason Coyle saddles-up Siren’s Fury this weekend, Kathy O’Hara booked to ride the daughter of Myboycharlie from Sydney.
Last time out Siren’s Fury ran under a length away third to Generalissimo in the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) at Randwick following a win in the Albany Guineas (1400m).
Also at single-figures to win the Princess Stakes is the early market mover Dont Doubt Da Wife who has been backed in from $7.50 to $6.
Jim Byrne rides the Tony Gollan-trained Snitzel filly once again and the up-and-comer is out to atone for a midfield sixth to Dreams Aplenty in the Toowoomba Guineas (1625m) on April 8 from barrier 12 of 12.
Of the longer-priced fancies there could be value in the likes of Scott Morrisey’s Gold Coast-trained daughter of Love Conquers All Perilous Love ($12) in barrier three, and even Jeff Lloyd’s mount Benfica Princess ($21) who is second-up for the season and a dual winner over the mile.
