A star field of weight-for-age autumn horses take to the Randwick track on Easter Saturday in the All Aged Stakes 2017, betting tips and the latest odds for the last of the major Sydney autumn races found below.
The reigning champion English is clear to run so the original 10 acceptors for the $600,000 Group 1 Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400m) are all there to do battle in Randwick Race 7 at 3:45pm (AEST).
It is an even battle in the latest All Aged Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au with the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained mare English now equal at $3.70 with Le Romain.
Both are proven in the wet and that could be one of the keys to this race with a likely Heavy-rated Randwick track.
English ran the ideal lead-up when second in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m), while the Kris Lees-trained Le Romain is out to atone for the unplaced Doncaster Mile run coming back in distance.
It was a devastatingly late loss for English who was the winner until the ‘Grey Flash’ appeared on the scene, Chautauqua coming from last to first to post his third straight TJ Smith Stakes win.
She’ll be better over 1400m and gets the run of the race from barrier two, while the main danger Le Romain jumps from the outside barrier with Hugh Bowman aboard.
So will the top two in All Aged Stakes betting get the job done for the punters or is there an upset pending?
Earlier we published our comprehensive 2017 All Aged Stakes Form Guide & Betting Preview and based on the facts and stats uncovered we’ve got the top three horses to get behind this weekend.
Going the upset and think with Black Heart Bart out, Victoria’s Darren Weir still has a winning chance in this five-year-old son of I Am Invincible who should be set to peak third-up over his pet distance (4-2-1-1). He was runner-up in Flemington’s Newmarket Handicap two back before a fifth in the TJ Smith Stakes, the form line to follow into the All Aged Stakes from the past decade or so. He’ll be better stepping up the extra 200m, has the equal best 45% win rate of the field and goes well in the wet.
Lots of boxes ticked by the equal favourite who failed in the Doncaster, but gets the chance to atone here. He has been over 1400m three times for three seconds and chances are he can make it a fourth. One of the best of this race in the mud (5-2-2-0) and favourites have a 50% winning strike rate in the All Aged over the past decade. Second best Place Rate of the field (82%) and is right in the mix if he’s back to his best.
Juicy price offered on this in-form mudlark who has been making the most of the rain-affected autumn carnival features. Hard to forget in exotics at the double-figures, especially after the Group 3 win over 1200m at Rosehill by two lengths last time out. Run before produced The Galaxy third and he’s won over 1400m before so the distance is a non-issue.
