The Championships 2017 racing action kicks off at Royal Randwick this afternoon with a full track report and official Sydney race scratchings for Day 1 detailed below.

It is a mostly sunny day in Sydney across the afternoon and with no chance of rain until the evening, the current Heavy (8) Randwick looks set to remain or even improve as the day’s racing progresses.

Sydney racing for Doncaster Mile Day is set to kick off at 12:10pm (AEDT) and the ten-race program continues through until 5:50pm (AEDT).

It is a huge meeting featuring four Group 1 races starting with the 2017 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Race 6) where Gunnison comes out paving the way for the Lindsay Park-trained Feng Chu to score a start.

The original thirteen final acceptors for the 2017 Australian Derby field (Race 7) remain in play and betting at on the mile and a half feature is firmly led by the Kiwi-trained Rosehill Guineas winner Gingernuts ($3.10).

There are no scratchings from the 2017 TJ Smith Stakes field (Race 8) with fifteen sprinters facing off including the dual defending champion Chautauqua ($5.50) and the now $4.20 favourite Russian Revolution.

The elite level Sydney racing action comes to a peak in Race 9 with the 2017 Doncaster Mile field to run at a capacity 20 starters including the first emergency New Tipperary in for the withdrawn Tosen Stardom.
