Jameka has produced a dominant performance in the final straight at Rosehill Gardens to post a dominant six length win in the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) this afternoon.

Jameka ran an agonizingly-close second in the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at her last start, but the mare was returning to her pet distance of a mile and a half in The BMW and punters rallied around the champion mare in the days leading up to the race.

Jumping from the gates well, jockey Hugh Bowman allowed Jameka to stride forward and took a position on the heels of noted pace horse Lasqueti Spirit past the post the first time.

Settling into a perfect rhythm and switching off as Lasqueti Spirit continued to pull clear and open the gap on The BMW field, Bowman remained composed aboard the mare and waited until the final straight before asking for an extra effort.

Having easily found the lead with 300m to run, Jameka continued to pull clear of her rivals and posted undoubtedly her most dominant win to date from Humidor; Exospheric boxing on for third.

Ciaron Maher was understandably thrilled with Jameka’s win in The BMW, but said that he is yet to confirm the mare’s next competitive point of call.

“It’s a credit to the team, they’ve done a great job,” Maher said.

“It was one of her target races and we’re just thrilled to get it done.

“She travels well and when she can bowl along where she’s happy, she can generally produce her best. It was a super effort today and it’s just a big thrill.

“We’ve always said one step at a time and we’ll get through the prep. She certainly seems in super order and it’s a good conundrum to have.”

Bowman delivered a gem of a performance aboard Jameka to win The BMW and was quick to lay all the praise on the talented mare in the result.

“What a mare she is,” Bowman said.

“She really put the writing on the wall in the Australian Cup three weeks ago, it was some performance.

“After doing all the work early and I don’t need to go through it all again, but she was really softened up and I asked her to extend early when the pressure built and it was a winning performance without quite getting the chocolates.

“She brought it here today and showed up what she was capable of.

“My only worry was at the 600m and wondering where are the others. I didn’t want to kick after the leader and find myself coming up short.

“When you’ve got a supreme athlete underneath you, it makes it easy.”

In being crowned the 2017 The BMW winner, Jameka has posted an impressive seven wins and nine minors, through twenty-five career starts.
