Race 7 at Rosehill Gardens on The BMW Day sees a smart field of fillies face off in the Vinery Stud Stakes 2017, betting tips and the latest odds for which are detailed below.
There are twelve Australian Oaks types left in this year’s $500,000 Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) and the updated odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are all about the Chris Waller-trained duo of Foxplay and Dawn Wall.
Foxplay has Hugh Bowman aboard chasing his third win in the race after guiding back-to-back Vinery Stud Stakes champions to victory in 2013 and 2014.
This grey daughter of Foxwedge loves Rosehill with two wins and a second from four previous starts at the track.
She won here a fortnight ago on a Soft (6) in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) saluting for the punters as the odds-on favourite.
Foxplay again leads Vinery Stud Stakes betting for the weekend at a more generous price as she gets out over 2000m for the first time.
A likely Heavy Rosehill track doesn’t look at issue for her, but how she goes over the metres will be key to her taking over career record up to five wins from a dozen starts.
There’s been steady money rolling in for her progressive stablemate Dawn Wall who has been backed right in from $5.50 to $4.80 and who now occupies the second line of the Vinery Stud Stakes odds.
She gets the run of the race from barrier three chasing a fourth consecutive victory, the Fastnet Rock filly last seen winning the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) over a mile on March 10.
So will the Waller two run the Vinery Stud Stakes quinella or is there an upset pending from the likes of the Kiwi La Bella Diosa ($5) or the Crown Oaks runner-up from the spring Harlow Gold ($6.50)?
#2 Foxplay ($3.40)
Happy to go with the bookies’ tip and put Foxplay on top after she returned to winning form third-up last time out. Rosehill is her pet track and she’s previously saluted on Heavy going so should get through the going well. Needs to handle the extra distance here, but thing she’ll run the 2000m and further.
#1 La Bella Diosa ($5)
The NZ 1000 Guineas winning daughter of So You Think showed she had ability on Heavy ground first-up at Randwick in the Group 2 Surround Stakes. Things went amiss when she finished dead last in the Coolmore Classic last start, but there were excuses and happy to forgive and tip the improvement here over more distance.
#11 Concessions ($71)
Love finding a wet-tracker at big odds to fill a place and this Scott Singleton-trained Tickets filly from Hawkesbury is just that. She thrived on a Heavy (9) over mile back home last September and has winning form up to 1800m. Last start was stepped up in grade running fifth in the Kembla Grange Classic as a roughie. She can close the gap here over the increased distance and run a place at the huge price.
