Nine runners will chase Group 1 success at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday following this morning’s completion and release of the 2017 The BMW final field and barrier draw.
Our Ivanhowe stormed home to win the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) with complete ease last weekend and is one of two runners for Lee & Anthony Freedman confirmed in The BMW field.
Our Ivanhowe’s class carried him to his first Group 1 win in Australia in last year’s edition of the Doomben Cup (2000m), but the seven-year-old has been hanging out for wet tracks for more than two years.
Finally faced with ideal conditions when he lined up for the Ranvet Stakes, the Soldier Hollow entire produced a monumental turn of foot in the final straight to storm clear of his rivals and find the line close to four lengths ahead of closest competitor Hartnell.
Drawn well in barrier 7, Our Ivanhowe should prove too good for his rivals if he finds a similarly-wet track on Saturday afternoon.
Exospheric worked to the line well to finish third in the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) a fortnight ago and will relish a step up to a mile and a half in The BMW.
Making his Australian debut in spring, Exospheric immediately stamped himself as a horse to follow when working to the line well for third in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) and he ended his season a credible eighth in the Melbourne Cup (3200m).
Having resumed this time for sixth in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m), in what was his only other start prior to the Australian Cup, Exospheric has drawn into The BMW field on the rails and will be partnered by Damien Oliver.
Chris Waller will also launch a multi-pronged attack in the race after confirming Who Shot Thebarman (barrier 8), Grand Marshal (barrier 3) and Libran (barrier 6) in The BMW field.
Who Shot Thebarman returned to racing for third behind Winx in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) on February 25th and was last seen running sixth in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (2000m).
Grand Marshal has been ineffective under the conditions of his two runs this time in and has beaten only one runner home in both the Chipping Norton Stakes and Sky High Stakes.
Libran resumed for eighth in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) on February 13th and while failing to produce much when seventh in the Chipping Norton Stakes, worked to the line well for fourth in the Sky High Stakes last time out.
Australian Cup winner Humidor will jumped from barrier 5 when he takes his place in The BMW field, while Sky High Stakes winner Tavago could receive the run of the race from barrier 4.
Jameka (barrier 2) and Lasqueti Spirit (barrier 9) complete the 2017 The BMW field.
