2017 The Galaxy Field: Russian Revolution Draws Outside

Peter & Paul Snowden’s returning three-year-old Russian Revolution has suffered an early blow first-up drawing the far outside barrier for Saturday’s The Galaxy 2017.

The handicap short-distance Golden Slipper Stakes Day sprint is set to run as Rosehill Race 8 at 4:50pm (AEDT) and this year’s $700,000 Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) has attracted a final field of fourteen starters.

Drawn out in barrier fourteen and out to make history as the first The Galaxy winner in over 30 years to get the job done from wider than gate twelve is Snitzel colt Russian Revolution.

He won his opening four career starts including the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) before the close fourth behind Flying Artie down the Flemington straight in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m).

Russian Revolution has won two subsequent Randwick trials ahead of his return where Kerrin McEvoy has the mount looking to ride the first three-year-old The Galaxy winner to victory since Shellscrape (2010).

Also out to hand the Snowden stable with their first win in the race is Redzel in barrier eleven with Dwayne Dunn replacing McEvoy aboard the Snitzel four-year-old.

A 1100m specialist boasting four wins, a second and a third from eight previous runs over the distance, Redzel is second-up on the weekend.

He was last seen running a devastatingly close second behind English on a Heavy (10) Randwick track a fortnight ago in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m).

Redzel will be fitter second-up and better over the extra 100m, the galloper also benefiting from a notable drop back in weight from 58.5kg to 54.5kg this weekend.

Challenge Stakes winner English also backs-up in The Galaxy field 2017.

The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained mare carried 56.5kg to victory first-up in the Challenge Stakes and comes back a kilo as she looks to stay undefeated this time in.

The four-year-old daughter of Encosta De Lago is out to make it three straight wins for the mares in The Galaxy results and the second in three years for Waterhouse who prepared Sweet Idea (2015) for her win two seasons back.

Two other last-start winners are also in the mix with the Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra-trained mare from Melbourne Heatherly drawn out in barrier thirteen and the Robbie Laing-trained Missrock with the rails run.

Damian Lane rides Lonhro four-year-old Heatherly once again on the back of her stakes win over 1000m at Flemington on March 4.

She’s well-proven at the distance (4-2-0-1), but is as yet unraced in Sydney.

Missrock is a three-year-old daughter of Fastnet Rock out to be the first The Galaxy winning filly since La Baraka (1998).

She is racing in Sydney for just the second time after winning the Group 3 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) at Randwick last April.

She posted her first victory since first-up over 1100m at Flemington two weeks ago under 57.5kg and will be flying on Saturday coming right back to 50kg.
