We will be covering the 2017 Randwick Guineas Day results throughout the afternoon and we are set for a very exciting day of racing.

All the action on 2017 Randwick Guineas Day will get underway with the running of the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) for two-year-old fillies at 12:25pm local time and will conclude after the Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m) at 5:30pm.

2017 Randwick Guineas Day Results

Race 1 (12:25pm) Group 2 Reisling Stakes Results

Frolic has delivered Golden Slipper favourite She Will Reign her first career loss in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) this afternoon.

Frolic was considered only an outside chance in Reisling Stakes betting markets, but a brilliant ride by jockey Tommy Berry was the difference as his mount stormed home on the outside rail to post a career-best result to date.

She Will Reign hit the line well on a poor part of the track to finish second, while Villa Carlotta rounded out the minors.

  • 1st – Frolic
  • 2nd – She Will Reign
  • 3rd – Villa Carlotta

Gunnison has led from start to finish to beat stable mate Invader on the line in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) this afternoon.

Gunnison received steady support in Todman Stakes betting markets leading into this afternoon’s jump, and the colt did his chances of success no harm when he flew the barriers and immediately took up the running.

Setting a fair tempo for the field of eight, Gunnison pulled clear with 300m to run and maintained to the line well enough to post a maiden black type win.

  • 1st – Gunnison
  • 2nd – Invader
  • 3rd – Veranillo

Race 3 (1:40pm) Listed Fireball Stakes Results

Samantha has produced a smart turn of foot on the outside rail to win the Listed Fireball Stakes (1000m) this afternoon; following the trend of the day in finding a fast lane out wide.

Samantha was settled off the early pace of Scarlet Rain in the Fireball Stakes, but was the first horse to find the best running in the final straight and it paid dividends when she flew home to beat Glenall and Super Maxi.

Jockey Corey Brown’s ride was undoubtedly pivotal in the win and the filly will target the Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Day 1 of The Championships.

  • 1st – Samantha
  • 2nd – Glenall
  • 3rd – Super Maxi

Rocket Commander has bobbed her head at the right time to post a shock win in the Group 3 Wenona Girl Quality (1200m) this afternoon.

Rocket Commander took a positive position on the pace in the Wenona Girl Quality and led the field into the final straight.

Having fallen off the pace, the Court Command mare looked as though she was going to finish fifth, but produced arguably the best kick of the Autumn Carnival to date to storm back into the racer and beat Hieroglyphics in a photo.

  • 1st – Rocket Commander
  • 2nd – Hieroglyphics
  • 3rd – Zestful

Race 5 (2:50pm) Group 1 Cantebury Stakes Results

Le Romain has produced a stunning sprint in the final straight to beat Chautauqua on the line in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).

Glyn Schofield led the Hard Spun gelding forward from the gates and took a positive position on the speed, before pulling to the outside rail upon arriving at the final straight.

Locking in a fierce late sprint battle with Chautauqua, Le Romain bobbed his head at the right time to post his third career Group 1 win in the feature race.

  • 1st – Le Romain
  • 2nd – Chautauqua
  • 3rd – Hauraki

English has held on to beat Redzel on the line in a photo finish to the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) this afternoon.

The Group 1-winning mare jumped the outright favourite in the Challenge Stakes; a race that she won in 2016, and she did her chances no harm when taking a good position off the early pace of Ball Of Muscle.

Sticking to the middle of the track upon arriving at the final straight, the Encosta De Lago mare appeared home at hosed, but despite a late challenge from the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained sprinter, held on to win the race.

  • 1st – English
  • 2nd – Redzel
  • 3rd – Supido

Race 7 (4:10pm) Group 1 Randwick Guineas Results

Inference has produced a big turn of foot to win the featured Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) this afternoon.

Second in the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) in spring, Inference jumped from the gates well in the Randwick Guineas, but was settled off the early pace by jockey Tommy Berry.

Pulled to the outside rails upon arriving at the final straight, the So You Think colt produced a superior turn of foot to swallow up the talented Randwick Guineas field and beat Invincible Gem on the line.

  • 1st – Inference
  • 2nd – Invincible Gem
  • 3rd – Comin’ Through

Elle Lou has franked her tag as a wet track specialist with a wrong win in the Group 3 Aspiration Quality (1600m) at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Elle Lou was settled within the field of twelves mares in the Aspiration Quality and received a good run in transit as Sewreel, Countess Marinov and Chaquinta showed the early way.

Holding an inside line rounding into the final straight, Elle Lou produced a strong turn of foot with 200m to run to pull to the lead and open something of a gap; maintaining to the line well to withstand a late charge by Godolphin mare Alegria.

  • 1st – Elle Lou
  • 2nd – Alegria
  • 3rd – Vandancer

Race 9 (5:30pm) Listed Randwick City Stakes Results

Astronomos has dominated the final straight to take out the Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m) and officially conclude 2017 Randwick Guineas Day results.

Astronomos was clearly the horse to beat in the Randwick City Stakes field and was tucked away off pace early as Bills A Good and Café Society took any speed out of the race.

Offered a clear line upon arriving at the final straight, the New Approach gelding produced a strong turn of foot with 300m to open a gap of four lengths on his rivals.

  • 1st – Astronomos
  • 2nd – Cafe Society
  • 3rd – Montauk
