Melbourne is in for a partly cloudy day today, Saturday February 25, and with no chance of rain on the forecast the current Good (3) Caulfield track rating is set to stay making for a top day of racing.

Caulfield Track Report – 25/02/2017

  • Rail: Out 3m Entire Circuit
  • Weather: Fine
  • Track Type: Turf
  • Track Rating: Good (3)
  • Irrigation: 4mm last 24hrs; 22mm last 7 days
  • Rainfall: nil last 24hrs; 8mm last 7 days

Caulfield racing kicks off this afternoon at 12:30pm (AEDT) with the Ladbrokes Mornington Cup Prelude and continues through until Race 9 closes the card with the Mannerism Stakes for mares at 5:30pm (AEDT).

The highlight on the program is of course the gun two-year-olds taking to the track in Race 7 for the 2017 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes where Azazel, Spoils and on Friday afternoon Jukebox have all come out of the field.

The other Group 1s giving Melbourne punters some top class autumn betting opportunities at Ladbrokes.com.au today are the 2017 Futurity Stakes (Race 5) where Black Heart Bart is the one to beat and the 2017 Oakleigh Plate (Race 8) featuring an open field of sprinters including last year’s Blue Diamond Stakes winner Extreme Choice.

See below for the full Caulfield race scratchings and complete 2017 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes Day Preview before heading to the major race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au for the best odds and offers across the afternoon.

Caulfield Race Preview & Scratchings – 25/02/2017

Total Scratchings: 7

Race 1 (12:30pm) – $120,000 Listed Ladbrokes Mornington Cup Prelude (2000m)

  • #8 Adirondack (1)

The Mornington Cup Prelude kicks off the card and just seven runners are in the mix including the $3 favourite Second Bullet who looks hard to beat from the inside alley on 55kg coming off a first-up win at the track over 1800m. The 58.5kg top weight Pilote D’Essai ($4.60) is the danger out to improve off the fresh run when ninth against some nice horses in the Group 3 Carlyon Cup at a mile on CF Orr Stakes Day.

Race 2 (1:05pm) – $150,000 Group 3 Ladbrokes Zeditave Stakes (1200m)

  • #9 Armedanddangerous (8)

The Zeditave Stakes field has a smart field of 3yo colts and geldings in the mix who could back-up in a week in the Australian Guineas if they show enough potential. An open race with plenty of winning chances including the rails-drawn Derryn ($3.20) coming off a first-up fourth in the Manfred Stakes, he’ll get a midfield run and close hard with fitness edge now.

Race 3 (1:40pm) – $200,000 Group 2 Heritage Finance Caulfield Autumn Classic (1800m)

  • No current scratchings

Not the best Caulfield Autumn Classic field, but Farson brings the class and dominates betting at $2.25. The one to beat making it three on the trot. Bold Presence ($11) a good place chance for Lindsay Park adding the value to the quinella.

Race 4 (2:15pm) – $200,000 Group 2 Polytrack Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m)

  • #7 Bella Sorellastra (6)

The fillies face off in this heading towards Group 1 targets and the last start Kevin Hayes Stakes winner Fuhryk ($2.90) is in flying form. Jennifer Lynn ($4) will be the improver getting up in distance, while the Perth visitor Ellicazoom($6) is the unknown bringing the ultra-consistent WA form to Melbourne here.

Race 5 (2:50pm) – $500,000 Group 1 italktravel Futurity Stakes (1400m)

  • No current scratchings

Last start CF Orr Stakes winner Black Heart Bart ($1.95) is now odds-on favourite for Darren Weir and will be very hard to stop hitting peak fitness third-up. Turn Me Loose ($5.50) won this race last year off a CF Orr Stakes fourth and caught the eye running second in the same lead-up this season so could be the value of the day to go back-to-back.

Race 6 (3:30pm) – $200,000 Group 2 Crown Lager Peter Young Stakes (1800m)

  • No current scratchings

Australian Cup-bound gallopers take to the track in the Peter Young Stakes and even with the far from ideal second-up record, the Ciaron Maher-trained Caulfield Cup winning mare Jameka ($3.50) looked very impressive resuming in the CF Orr Stakes (4th). She’ll be hard to stop here, but there’s class from Humidor ($4.50) and Real Love ($26) the forgotten mare in the mix at a blowout price.

Race 7 (4:10pm) – $1.5 million Group 1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m)

  • #2 Azazel (1)
  • #3 Jukebox (4)
  • #14 Spoils (17)

The day’s major runs with an under-capacity field following a couple of scratchings, most notably the undefeated Jukebox who was found to be lame in his action on Friday afternoon in a blow for Maher. Punters are coming hard and fast for the Blue Diamond Prelude winning filly Catchy ($4.20), but for a big value place look to the rails-drawn Cao Cao ($41) for last year’s winning trainer Mick Price.

Race 8 (4:50pm) – $500,000 Group 1 The Resimax Group Oakleigh Plate (1100m)

  • #17 Missrock (14)

The sprinters heading towards a Super Saturday run in the Newmarket Handicap run in the short-distance Oakleigh Plate and the reigning Blue Diamond winner Extreme Choice ($4.20) leads the markets. Fellow three-year-old I Am A Star ($7.50) is a Group 1 winning filly second-up with claims despite the wide gate, while Sheidel ($9.50) first-up looks outstanding value.

Race 9 (5:30pm) – $150,000 Group 3 Premier Signs Mannerism Stakes (1400m)

  • No current scratchings

Card closer looks to be the $2.05 favourite Silent Sedition‘s for the taking after she went down by the narrowest of margins first-up at the track over 1200m. Getting up to 1400m second-up and she’ll be winning.
