The consistent Lindsay Park-trained Fuhryk is one of the headline final acceptors into the Angus Armanasco Stakes 2017 field at Caulfield Racecourse this weekend.
The fourth race on the Blue Diamond Stakes Day card on Saturday, this season’s $200,000 Group 2 Polytrack Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) is set to jump at 2:15pm (AEDT) and features 11 three-year-old fillies.
Drawn in barrier seven with Craig Williams booked for the ride, Star Witness filly Fuhryk chases her fifth career win at start number seven and her second on the trot at the Caulfield track.
She stepped up in class on CF Orr Stakes Day a fortnight ago and won the traditional Angus Armanasco Stakes lead-up as the favourite in the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m).
Fuhryk saluted for the punters in the Kevin Hayes Stakes by a tidy two lengths and looks on track for another big effort getting out over 1400m from a similar gate on Saturday leading into tougher autumn features.
The stable have also accepted for Zunbaqa drawn the outside alley (11) with Regan Bayliss aboard.
More Than Ready filly Zunbaqa won back-to-back 1400m races last winter, but is out to atone for her first-up seventh in the Kevin Hayes.
Heading the Angus Armanasco Stakes field and also drawn wide in barrier 10 is the Darren Weir-trained Jennifer Lynn who heads towards a possible Sydney run in April’s Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m).
The daughter of High Chaparral held her own against the boys in the spring when third in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) beaten under a length on the back of a Listed Flemington win over 1400m on Melbourne Cup Day.
She has had two runs this season for a first-up second at Flemington under a big weight (58.5kg) and a fifth in the Kevin Hayes Stakes.
Jennifer Lynn is sure to finish off better on the weekend getting back up to her pet distance, the filly unbeaten over 1400m (3-3-0-0).
Adding interest to the race is the Melbourne debut of the Neville Parnham-trained Ellicazoom from Perth.
At home the daughter of Testa Rossa boasts two Group race placings including the WA Guineas second over a mile last November and should be in for a big run over 1400m second-up on Saturday jumping from gate nine.
Last season’s Blue Diamond Stakes winning horseman Mick Price is in with two Angus Armanasco Stakes hopes in 2017 including Kevin Hayes Stakes runner-up Oregon’s Day.
The daughter of Domesday has winning form at Caulfield in stakes’ company and is accompanied in the Group 2 on Diamond Day by stablemate Inspired Estelle.
Craig Newitt is booked to ride Price’s Manhattan Rain filly from a gun barrier two draw, retaining the mount after guiding the progressive Inspired Estelle for her solid fourth in the Kevin Hayes Stakes as a $41 roughie in betting.
John McArdle has So You Think filly Smart As You Think racing for the first time since her sixth in the Crown Oaks, while the rails draw belongs to Murtajill grey Didnt Even Kiss Me who won three on the trot during December over the 1400m.
