Rosehill Gardens Racecourse is host to Hobartville Stakes Day 2017 this afternoon, full Sydney race scratchings and preview of what’s ahead found below.
Sydney is scheduled for late afternoon thunderstorms so the current Soft (6) Rosehill track rating could be downgraded by the end of the day giving the proven wet track performers an advantage.
Sydney racing kicks off at 12:45pm (AEDT) and the nine-race autumn card comes to a close at 5:45pm (AEDT).
A trio of Group races highlight the program starting with the 2017 Silver Slipper Stakes (Race 5) for the two-year-olds heading towards next month’s $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m).
The season’s gun three-year-olds are on show next race in the 2017 Hobartville Stakes field including returning Victoria Derby winner Prized Icon.
The Millie Fox Stakes 2017 (Race 7) then features another key betting opportunity for the punters with the fillies and mares facing off and plenty of value to be had.
Check out the full Hobartville Stakes Day program, Rosehill scratchings and Sydney racing preview below before heading to Ladbrokes.com.au for the best odds and offers all afternoon.
Total Scratchings: 9
Race 1 (12:45pm) – $100,000 Spark Of Life Handicap (1100m)
Day kicks off with a handicap sprint for 3yos with only five left in the mix. Wide open, but coming off three straight wins Tactical Advantage ($2.80) looks the one to beat again on 28 day turnaround with Warwick Farm trial keeping him sharp. Even with the big weight (62kg) Scarlet Rain ($3.30) shapes up as a danger after the impressive win here last time out.
Race 2 (1:25pm) – $100,000 Happy 80th Birthday Stan King Handicap (1350m)
Seven runners in the second, betting narrowly led by Handfast ($3.10) who resumed with a sixth in the Expressway Stakes where he had few excuses. Will be fitter for the run however and second-up has good form. Money coming in for Elle Lou ($4.20) who is unplaced with two runs this campaign, but was brave and gets chance to atone after the tough Magic Millions Fillies & Mares run.
Race 3 (2:00pm) – $100,000 James Ruse Handicap (1500m)
The third is a middle-distance handicap dominated by a trio of Waller-trained stablemates including returning Shocking four-year-old Antonio Giuseppe ($2.60) who is racing for the first time since the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) second last October. Won three on the trot at Rosehill Gardens before that giving him a flawless record here and he is also undefeated at 1500m. Stablemate Strawberry Boy ($2.90) comes off a third over the mile under 61kg and while allocated that weight again, coming back to 52kg with the apprentice claim is right in the mix again.
Race 4 (2:35pm) – $60,000 TAB Highway Handicap (1100m)
Class 2 in the fourth and so many are in flying form making for an exciting sprint. Kooringal Star ($3.20) chases a third win on the trot and gets the run of the race from the gate so is a big hope. Value though is the consistent Aristograts ($8) coming off a Tamworth win after missing the kick.
Race 5 (3:10pm) – $250,000 Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m)
Golden Slipper Stakes 2017 favourite She Will Reign ($1.45) is on show first-up here chasing her third win from as many career starts as well as the ballot free ride into the world’s richest race for two-year-olds. She is the one to beat, but Peter & Paul Snowden’s returning colt Khan ($5) and the John O’Shea-trained last start black-type winner at Randwick Veranillo ($7.50) also have claims.

Race 6 (3:45pm) – $400,000 Group 2 Schweppes Hobartville Stakes (1400m)
The Randwick Guineas hopes face off in the sixth with the Chris Waller-trained Comin’ Through ($3.60) the one to beat second-up after the Eskimo Prince fifth over unsuitably short distance. His last start conqueror Man From Uncle ($6) is in the mix again, but needs to prove himself over these metres. Veladero ($10) over the odds and and could surprise second-up.

Race 7 (4:25pm) – $200,000 Group 2 Ranvet Millie Fox Stakes (1300m)
#6 Artistry (12)
Fillies and mares heading towards The Championships Group 1 races for the female gallopers on show here and looks plenty of value to be had. Private Secretary ($11) at double-figures is well weighted and comes off the Magic Millions win over 1300m. Loves this distance (6-3-2-1). In Her Time ($5) is out wide and going up in weight, but comes off three straight wins including the Group 2 Breeders Classic last start.

Race 8 (5:05pm) – $125,000 Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m)
Black-type staying clash has seven left in the mix including Red Excitement ($4.40) and Religify ($4) at the top of the weight scale both chasing three wins on the trot. Better weighted is Allergic ($3.50) set to jump favourite and out to atone for the well-beaten fifth when resuming.
Race 9 (5:45pm) – $100,000 St Johns Park Bowling Club Handicap (1100m)
Card closer has some nice sprinters on show including Hieroglyphics ($3.30) on 53kg, the mare coming off a Canterbury win over these metres carrying 55.5kg. Rails run for Aegean Sea ($6) and Ziggy Willie ($60 in gate two has run in the money five times in the past eight runs so is a must include again here.
