This Saturday at Rosehill Gardens the race towards the Golden Slipper heats up with the running of the Silver Slipper Stakes 2017, betting tips and the latest odds on the sprint found below.

There are just seven two-year-olds engaged in this year’s $250,000 Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m), the winner of which is exempt from ballot for the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) back at the track on March 18.

Leading the latest Silver Slipper Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $1.55 and firming is current Golden Slipper betting favourite She Will Reign.

All the money is on this Gary Portelli-trained Manhattan Rain filly who is out for her third win from as many career starts first-up.

Her latest run was in the mud at Randwick on December 17 where she enjoyed a four length win over 1000m adding onto her impressive eight length win on debut at Kembla Grange earlier that month.

She Will Reign looked to be flying in a recent Warwick Farm hit out that she blitzed by nine lengths so in this small field she is definitely the juvenile to beat, needing the win to make the Golden Slipper field.

So will the odds-on favourite in Silver Slipper Stakes betting get the job done for the punters or is there value tipping an upset from the likes of the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Breeders Plate winner Khan ($4.80) or market mover Veranillo ($6)?

#5 She Will Reign ($1.55)

Is odds-on and firming fast and it isn’t hard to see why. She has blitzed everything she’s been asked to do so far including handling the Heavy (8) track in the Inglis Nursery. She’ll eat up the 1100m and be spot-on for the 1200m of the Group 1 next month. Her trial was super impressive, only faces six rivals and nothing suggests she won’t keep the flawless record going.

#1 Veranillo ($6)

Tickle of the punters’ attention going to this undefeated Godolphin galloper who, if there’s an upset, will be the one to score it. John O’Shea-trained colt won at Rosehill on debut in November before a first-up run on February 4 at Randwick to take out the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m). Proven over these metres, gun run from barrier four and set weights suit.

#2 Khan ($4.80)

Team Snowden are masters of training top two-year-olds and Khan looked just that on debut back in October. He takes to the track for the first time since on Saturday looking to show he has improved over the break. Looked fit in two nice summer trials including 2.3 length win over 800m at Gosford earlier this month.
