Thirteen fillies and mares will take to the track for Race 7 at 4:25pm (AEDT) on Hobartville Stakes Day in the $200,000 Group 2 Ranvet Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) – a nice lead-up into the $600,000 Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) back at Rosehill on March 11.

Well-supported early in the Millie Fox Stakes odds at backed in from $9 to $5.50 is Denman four-year-old Denmagic.

Third behind I Am A Star in Flemington’s Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) during the spring, Denmagic is back up in grade after kicking off her autumn on February 4 at Randwick with a second in a Benchmark 93 over 1000m.

Her winning strike rate is very poor with just two victories from 19 career runs to date and none since taking out a Benchmark 72 as a three-year-old in January last year.

Still the bookies are taking no chances on the Group 1 placegetter who drops from 59kg first-up to 54kg at set weights plus penalties in the Millie Fox.

Close second favourite in Millie Fox Stakes betting 2017 at $6 is the nicely-drawn Euro Angel jumping from gate three with Tommy Berry aboard.

Team Hawkes prepare the four-year-old daughter of Rip Van Winkle who won Caulfield’s Group 3 Ladies Day Vase (1600m) last October before the failed 14th of 15 runners in the Myer Classic.

She has trialled well since and runs well fresh.

A further five hopefuls are under double figures including Artistry ($7) with a wide barrier 12 draw to overcome.

Peter & Paul Snowden saddle-up the returning Shamardal five-year-old whose last start at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day produced a Group 3 win over 1400m.

Hugh Bowman is replaced by Kerrin McEvoy as Artistry looks to add to her impressive Rosehill track record that currently stands at three wins from four starts.

No doubt she has work to do from the gate, but first-up in the spring she covered plenty of ground at Randwick from barrier 11 of 12 to run second to Egyptian Symbol in the Group 3 Nivision so the form is there.

Other key chances in the Millie Fox Stakes markets for Saturday include the rock hard fit In Her Time ($8.50) chasing a fourth win on the trot after taking out the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) first-up on February 4 and Magic Millions Fillies & Mares winner at the Gold Coast last time out Private Secretary ($8.50) who has killer form over this distance (6-3-2-1).

There’s also nice form on Ron Quinton’s Doemsday four-year-old Daysee Doom ($8.50) in barrier two who won back-to-back races last time in.

She has won five from seven to date including both her Rosehill starts and impressed in a recent Randwick trial ahead of her step up in class first-up on Saturday.
