The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Sydney visitor Northwest Passage is one of the headline final acceptors for the Hobart Guineas 2017 in Tasmania on Sunday.
The $100,000 Listed Kevin Sharkie Hobart Guineas (2100m) continues the black-type action of the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival running as Race 7 at 3:59pm (AEDT) on the weekend.
A final field of eleven hopeful three-year-olds make up the Hobart Guineas field this season including consistent So You Think gelding Northwest Passage.
The nicely-bred youngster won his opening two career starts at Hawkesbury and Canterbury in November and December respectively.
On debut he put 2.3 lengths on his rivals before stepping up from 1300m to 1900m at Canterbury to cart 60.5kg to a narrow win.
Last start he suffered his first loss, but was far from disgraced on January 2 at Royal Randwick when only two lengths away third over 1800m behind Black On Gold.
He looks well-suited to set weights on the weekend and has Adam Hyeronimus aboard again.
Victorian raider Shadow Prince for Blue Diamond Stakes winning trainer Mick Price also comes into the Tasmanian feature off nice lead-up form interstate.
Thomas Sadler retains the ride on the weekend having partnered the Dalghar gelding for his two latest runs including a big 3.75 length win over 2025m at Cranbourne in late December.
Heading the local Tasmanian charge in the Hobart Guineas this summer is the Scott Brunton-trained duo of Alexander Benjamin and Life On The Wire from Seven Mile Beach.
The stablemates are both drawn wide in the field out in gates 10 and 11 respectively, but have the distance to overcome their alleys.
Alexander Benjamin hasn’t won this prep, the son of Domesday looking to improve on a close last start fifth when only two lengths off the winner Mulley’s Idol over the mile at Hobart on January 6.
He should eat-up the extra metres on Sunday and looks like he’s been crying out for the distance.
Life On The Wire meanwhile has been in flying form, the Pluck filly having finished out of the money just once in her six career starts to date.
She has winning Hobart form and ran second only a neck off the winner Hot Dipped in the Listed Tasmanian Guineas (1600m) last time out.
Other notable hopes including the rails-drawn Matamanoa for Patrick Payne who Brad Rawiller travels down to ride, and the Brendan McShane-trained Lord Derby.
Jumping from barrier three, Pour Moi gelding Lord Derby from Broadmarsh remains a maiden after five runs.
He has been progressing very nicely towards posting his first win however and comes off back-to-back seconds over 1600m at Hobart this summer.
