Early pre-field 2017 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes odds are now out at bookmakers around the country with two Lindsay Park-trained youngsters heading futures markets on the February classic.
Second acceptances for the $1.5 million Group 1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m), running at Caulfield Racecourse on February 25, close at 12pm on Tuesday January 10.
Of the current entries for the juveniles’ feature the favourite in futures Blue Diamond Stakes betting at race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au are stablemates Catchy and Tulip at an equal $11 for the win.
Fastnet Rock filly Catchy raced into Blue Diamond Stakes contention with her impressive win in Melbourne over the weekend.
A first-up winner at Moonee Valley in December, she retained her undefeated status with a runaway two and a quarter-length victory over 1100m at Caulfield on Saturday as the odds-on favourite.
In the past 30 years co-trainer David Hayes has prepared five Blue Diamond Stakes winners with Reaan (2008) the most recent.
The last filly to beat home the boys meanwhile was Earthquake (2014) who made it three on the trot for the girls after the previous Blue Diamond wins by Samaready (2012) and Miracles Of Life (2013).
The other top fancy in the current Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes markets, Tulip is a nicely-bred daughter of 2012 Golden Slipper winner Pierro.
She debuted at Moonee Valley on New Year’s Eve and enjoyed an early career win over 1000m saluting for the punters with a one and three-quarter length win over Pure Emotion.
Occupying the second line of betting at $13 is yet another Hayes & Dabernig-trained two-year-old daughter of Fastnet Rock Formality.
She had her maiden start at Werribee on January 5 and blitzed her rivals over the 1100m with an all-too-easy four and a quarter-length victory with Mark Zahra in the saddle.
Equal at $15 for this autumn’s Blue Diamond Stakes trophy are then Aspect and Cao Cao.
Tony McEvoy prepares Pluck colt Aspect out of Angaston and the up-and-comer has already enjoyed a Black-Type win.
On debut he raced at Flemington during November’s Melbourne Cup Carnival and overcame barrier 12 of 12 down the straight to take out the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m).
Cao Cao meanwhile ran second in that same race as a $26 shot for Caulfield’s Mick Price before winning at Moonee Valley in smart fashion on November 26.
Price chases a third Blue Diamond Stakes victory in 2017 following his earlier wins with Samaready (2012) and Extreme Choice (2016).
He also prepared last year’s runner-up Flying Artie when taking out the Blue Diamond Stakes quinella.
Other early fancies being kept safe in Blue Diamond Stakes betting include the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained NSW Breeders’ Plate winner Khan, Wyong Magic Millions Classic winning filly Madeenaty and McEvoy’s Adelaide-based Roomooz.
