Vo Rogue Plate 2016 Betting Tips & Odds

The 2016 Vo Rogue Plate betting markets for Saturday in Brisbane are all about Winning Rupert retaining his undefeated status, but is the odds-on favourite the one to tip at Eagle Farm?

Running as Race 4 at 2:13pm (local) as part of Brisbane’s New Year’s Eve races, this summer’s $200,000 Group 3 BRC Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) field is down to eleven runners after the withdrawal of Miss Kindilan (8).

Red hot favourite in the Vo Rogue Plate odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying a very short quote of $1.14 for the win is the unbeaten Bjorn Baker-trained Winning Rupert.

A genuine star in the making, the Written Tycoon colt has won all four career starts so far impressively including the Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m) at Doomben a fortnight back.

Also a Group 2 winner at that track over the winter, Winning Rupert is looking to salute for the punters once again as he heads towards the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) on the Gold Coast next month.

The next shortest quote in Vo Rogue Plate betting this year is a generous $15 for Savabeel gelding Billy The Kid who chases a third win on the trot from the outside alley.

So can Winning Rupert keep the winning streak going or is there value tipping an upset Vo Rogue Plate result from one of the roughie shots in the mix?

Our 2016 Vo Rogue Plate Trifecta Tip is #1 Winning Rupert from #7 Candika and #3 Billy The Kid

1st

#1 Winning Rupert ($1.14)

He is crazy short, but really is impossible not to back Baker’s young champion. All he has done before is excellent and his trainer believes the best is yet to come. Steps up to 1300m for the first time, but the distance looks a total non-issue based on his 5.5 length demolition job in the Gold Edition. Continues to improve each time out, has winning form at the track, gets things his way from gate five and jockey Jeff Lloyd knows him well.

2nd

#7 Candika ($19)

Nice price offered for the Steven O’Dea-trained local Sebring filly who is more than capable of a top two run. She was only two and a half-lengths off Winning Rupert back in May for her sixth in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) and has been Group 1 performed since. First-up she ran second in the Listed Mode Plate (1200m) and she’ll be fitter for the run. Was wide that day and into eight this weekend with Paul Hammersley coming back on after McEvoy rode her last time out.

3rd

#3 Billy The Kid ($15)

Lots to like about this John & Chris Meagher-trained gelding who is undefeated at Eagle Farm after winning both his starts at the track first and second-up. He is on a roll and always hard to knock a horse in form. He won by 2.3 lengths over 1400m here on November 26, but shouldn’t find 1300m too sharp having been freshened up since. Genuine danger even from the wide alley.

Whether you’re backing or sacking Winning Rupert in the Vo Rogue Plate 2016 make sure you have access to Odds Boost Extra on the race only at Ladbrokes.com.au (T&Cs apply).
