Kuro Tops 2016 Bribie Handicap Nominations & Weights
Joe Pride’s Sydney sprinter Kuro is the highest-rated and weighted nominee for the Bribie Handicap 2016 in Brisbane this weekend.

The $100,000 Listed South Pacific Laundry Bribie Handicap (1050m) is one of six Listed features running at Doomben Racecourse on Saturday and attracted a bumper 27 nominations on Monday.
Heading the line-up and weights with 59.5kg is Pride’s Denman five-year-old Kuro who comes off a Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) win at Rosehill from December 3.
The gelding carried 55.5kg to victory in that sprint showdown and rises notably in weights ahead of his third run at the Doomben track on Saturday.
He has enjoyed a win and a third from his two previous runs at the course and returns there for the first time since May of 2015.
Kuro boasts stellar form over the short distance (17-5-2-3) and only needs to handle the weight to add a second Doomben win to his record if accepted for.
Following in the Bribie Handicap weights with 58kg is the Kelso Wood-trained Into The Red who defends his title in the race after winning April’s edition.
A three-time winner at the track, the six-year-old son of Not A Single Doubt comes off a first-up sixth behind Most Important in the Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on December 3.
He has won two-from-three over the shorter distance of Saturday’s showdown and took out the race when it ran over the same track / distance in late April carrying 58.5kg.
Into The Red also won the Group 3 W.J. Healy Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm in June and so has plenty of class.
Wood has also nominated for the returning Yoho, the Sequalo six-year-old last seen winning the Ballina Cup over a mile back in early September.
Also nominated for a first-up run in Saturday’s Bribie Handicap is the Tony Gollan-trained Casual Choice who won three on the trot last time in.
He hasn’t raced since a 1100m victory at Doomben in early April carrying 59kg, which followed a late February win over 1050m at the track and his Group 3 Gold Coast Stakes (1200m) success in March.
The Choisir seven-year-old has enjoyed three wins and two thirds from eight Doomben starts and has finished worse than second just once in six starts over the Bribie Handicap distance.
Gollan has a total of four Bribie Handicap entries with Casual Choice joined by veteran eight-year-old Rocket To Glory, well-performed Sequalo seven-year-old The Storeman and Jet Spur mare Vienna Queen.
Other notable nominees include the Pat Duff-trained Steel Zip lining-up for his 75th career start and Barry Lockwood’s smart mare Hidden Pearl who is a Doomben specialist (4-3-0-1).
