A field of classy three-year-old fillies will face off in the key support act at Eagle Farm’s George Moore Stakes Day in Brisbane on Saturday in the 2016 Mode Plate, betting tips and the updated odds for which are detailed below.
Closing the card as Eagle Farm Race 9 at 5:24pm (local time), the $100,000 Listed Mode Plate (1200m) field is down to 16 starters with betting at Ladbrokes.com.au led by two equal favourites.
Market mover River Racer ($6.50 into $5.50) and Savanna Amour ($4.50 out to $5.50) currently share the equal first line of Mode Stakes betting.
The duo are drawn in double-digits, but recent form suggests they could be hard to hold out.
Less Ross prepares Hidden Dragon filly River Racer who has finished out of the money just once in her eight career starts.
She has been at the track twice for two seconds, the latest on November 19 over 1000m and the step-up in distance on Saturday should work in her favour as Robbie Fradd retains the ride.
Savanna Amour has eased out in markets after her wide draw, the John & Chris Meagher-trained Lover Conquers All filly after successive wins after her first-up success at Doomben on November 5.
She has won a subsequent trial at Deagon and should be fitter for the run ahead of her fifth career start with James Orman coming aboard for the ride from barrier 15.
So will the top two in the Mode Plate odds prove the ones to run down or is there value further down the markets in the likes of the Chris Munce-trained Nicconi Leggera ($9.50) drawn the inside or the consistent Gibraltar Girl ($7) for Sydney’s Peter & Paul Snowden?
Tipping the Sydney form to stack up in the Sunshine State this weekend and like the recent form of this Manhattan Rain filly from Randwick. She won back-t-back Canterbury races carrying decent weight first and second-up this time in before a close second over 1200m at Rosehill on November 19. Gets the two weeks between runs before she gets another go at the distance. Drops from 59kg last start to 56.5kg, is drawn well mid-field and gets local help from hoop Jeff Lloyd.
This Tony Gollan-trained daughter of Captain Sonador enjoyed a one length win here against a similar line-up a fortnight ago and proved she can handle the track. Jim Byrne stays on for this as she goes up to 1200m for the first time since her solid fifth to Winning Rupert against the boys at Doomben in the winter’s Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m). Should get a gun run from the gate (4) and if she gets up on the speed from there could be hard to run down.
Wide open field full of place chances including this Kurt Goldman-trained daughter of I Am Invincible from Goulburn. She’s won her past two in Sydney over the distance and looks well placed here in the weights. Wide draw but is flying and can finish in the money with the right ride.
