There are 14 runners taking to the track in Rosehill Race 7 at 4:20pm (AEDT) for this season’s $125,000 Listed ATC Cup (2000m).

Heading the latest ATC Cup odds at paying $4.60 for the win is the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained More Than Ready mare Falkenberg.

The four-year-old only has winning form up to a mile to date, but she’s a Group 1 placegetter over 2400m when third to Provocative at Eagle Farm in the winter’s Queensland Oaks.

She also caught the eye at Rosehill a fortnight back when runner-up narrowly behind New Tipperany in the November Topaz (1900m), form the bookies are tipping to stack up in the ATC Cup.

It’s a wide open edition of the ATC Cup this Sydney Summer Racing Carnival and some of the biggest dangers according to the markets include Lady Le Fay ($6) for Chris Waller and the Peter Robl-trained veteran eight-year-old Iggi Pop ($8) who ran third in the November Topaz.

So will the favourite salute or is it worth tipping an upset ATC Cup result from the likes of the consistent John O’Shea-trained Malice ($9), Waller’s November Topaz fourth placegetter Dance Of Heroes ($13) or The Bull ($12) rising in class for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott?

#10 Falkenberg ($4.60)

Is hard to go past the favourite who is still at good odds. She’s drawn wider but there’s plenty of time to overcome the alley, gets in on the light weight and should be peaking ready to win four runs in. The loss over 100m less here two weeks ago was very close and with Kerrin McEvoy retaining the ride she gets another shot. Group 1 placed over a mile and a half so despite having only won up to 1600m, this distance should suit ideally at this stage of her campaign.

#3 Closing Bell ($10)

Waller’s American import has just his third run in Australia and should be getting better acclimatised by now. The sixth in the November Topaz under 61kg was brave, the Tapit stallion only beaten three lengths. Has won over further and will eat up the extra meters. Drops in weight to 57.5kg, has Tommy Berry in the saddle from a good draw (5) and gets the chance to show his true form.

#9 Iggi Pop ($8)

If following the November Topaz form into this race, Robl’s third placed eight-year-old was eye-catching. He carted 56kg and crossed just a quarter-length off the winner. He gets another go up in distance here and has won up to two miles so the more meters should work in his favour. Also down to 54kg. Happy to give another chance.
