2016 Jungle Dawn Classic Field Features Cosmic Storm

Last start Jungle Mist Classic winner Cosmic Storm is after another Black-Type Perth Summer Racing Carnival win this weekend taking on a field of fellow female gallopers in the Jungle Dawn Classic 2016.

One of three stakes races on the Kingston Town Classic Day card at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday, this season’s $100,000 Listed Ascend Sales Trophies Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) is set to run as Race 7 at 4:15pm (W.A. Time).

Sixteen fillies and mares make up the Jungle Dawn Classic field including the Grant & Alana Williams-trained Cosmic Storm.

The five-year-old daughter of Street Sense has an outstanding record at the track of two wins, two seconds and a third from five starts.

She was last seen winning the Listed Jungle Mist Classic (1200m) narrowly on November 19 and with winning form up to 2000m should have no issues over the 1400m.

In the Jungle Mist the winner overcame barrier 12 (of 16) and Cosmic Storm is drawn wide again on Saturday with Perth’s premier hoop William Pike to ride from gate 14.

She is joined in the line-up by two stables as Team Williams have also accepted for the returning I’m Feeling Lucky and Silverstream drawn at opposite ends of the field in barriers one and 13 respectively.

Ace Victoria-based former Perth boy Damien Oliver rides Al Maher mare Silverstream who will be at big odds after a host of failed lead-up runs including the Jungle Mist 15th.

The rails-drawn I’m Feeling Lucky meanwhile has Glenn Smith aboard first-up, the six-year-old having won four on the trot last time in around W.A.

She hasn’t been to Ascot however since April of this year and has one just one of her six previous first-up assignments.

Aside from Cosmic Storm the other best out of the traditional lead-up is the Jungle Mist Classic runner-up Meteoroid.

She jumps from gate 12 in the rematch on Saturday, Simon Miller’s Northern Meteor mare boasting previous winning form at the track / distance with the extra meters to suit on Saturday.

Jungle Mist Classic third placegetter at the big odds Distant Memory and the Fred Kersley-trained Lonhro mare Jestajingle who ran fourth are also looking to further frank that form in the Jungle Dawn on the weekend.

Other notable hopes include the Vaughn Sigley-trained Blackfriars filly Halldora coming off back-to-back Northam wins over 1300m and getting on 50kg as well as Showy Chloe out to atone for her two recent failures up against the boys.
