2016 Sensis Stakes Nominations Feature Sheidel

Lindsay Park’s last start Group 3 winning mare Sheidel is one of the headline entries for Saturday’s Sensis Stakes 2016, the race registered as the Begonia Belle Stakes one of nine Group Flemington events on VRC Derby Day.

A set weights plus penalties sprint down the straight for mares, this year’s $200,000 Group 3 Sensis Stakes (1100m) attracted a bumper 33 nominations when entries closed on Monday.

Among the possible runners is Holy Roman Emperor five-year-old Sheidel, last seen winning the Group 3 Northwood Plume Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on October 8.

She’s a gun at the short distance of this weekend’s race with three wins and a second from five runs over 1100m, but she is yet to be tested at the tough Flemington track.

Sheidel is narrow early favourite in pre-field Sensis Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $7 for the win in futures markets, and is also nominated for the $300,000 Group 2 Salinger Stakes (1200m) on the card.

She is joined in the entries by stablemate Miss Promiscuity, a six-year-old daughter of Magnus looking to post her first win since mid-April.

Occupying the second line of the all-in Sensis Stakes odds at $7.50 and also dually nominated for the same two Derby Day races as Sheidel is Shea Eden’s Beneteau four-year-old Ocean Embers.

She won back-to-back sprints at Caulfield in August including the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) before a last start fourth against the boys in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1100m) at the start of the month.

Ocean Embers is another short-distance sprint specialist with strong form at the 1100m (6-3-1-0), but she ran unplaced in her only Flemington start to date.

The highest-rated of the Sensis Stakes nominations is the smart Mark Kavanagh-trained Manhattan Rain five-year-old Wild Rain.

She is a multiple Group winner including most recently Moonee Valley’s Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) and has run top three in elite level company this campaign.

Two back she finished third to Extreme Choice beaten only 1.35 lengths in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) before a last start fifth when 2.65 lengths off the winner Our Boy Malachi in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1000m).

Currently the before final acceptance markets have her at $8.50 to win down the straight on Saturday, something she has failed to do from four previous Flemington starts.

Also at $8.50 are the Andrew Noblet-trained Super Cash and Lloyd Kennewell’s Adelaide visitor Viddora who is four-from-seven at the distance.

Super Cash is a four-year-old Written Tycoon mare who also has plenty over 1100m form (4-2-1-1) as well as winning experience at Flemington (2-1-1-0).

She took out an 1100m Caulfield race last time out and is looking to step back up to black type company on the weekend.

Other notable hopes include Matthew Smith’s Alinghi Stakes winner last time out over the distance at Caulfield Palazzo Pubblico, Husson seven-year-old Private Secretary and recent How Now Stakes winner Secret Agenda.

See below for the full Sensis Stakes 2016 nominations, the final field and barriers out on Wednesday followed by updated Fixed Win markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.
