Betting for the 2018 Group 1 $700,000 Altus...
Shane Nichols’ Thousand Guineas runner-up I Am A Star is one of the headline nominations taken for the Moonee Valley Fillies Classic 2016 running this weekend on Cox Plate Day.
A key support act on the Moonee Valley program on Saturday, this year’s $200,000 Group 2 P.W. Glass Fillies Classic (1600m) attracted 16 three-year-old fillies at nomination stage on Monday.
Heading the early entries and the Moonee Valley Fillies Classic ballot is I Am Invincible filly I Am A Star chasing her first win since a first-up Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) success at Caulfield in mid-August.
She has had three runs since including the brave second when a length off Global Glamour in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) on October 8.
Saturday, if accepted, will be her first look around the Moonee Valley circuit and she is the current $3.50 co-favourite in pre-field Moonee Valley Fillies Classic betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Sharing top spot with I Am A Star in the futures Fillies Classic odds for this weekend is the Chris Waller-trained Sydney raider Sezanne.
The Sydney form has been hard to beat down in Victoria this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival and More Than Ready filly Sezanne is out to continue that.
A winner of two of her four starts this campaign, she was last seen crossing third to the subsequent Thousand Guineas winner Global Glamour in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on October 1.
She’s had the let-up between runs then and is racing in Melbourne for the first time on W.S. Cox Plate Day.
The other best in the all-in markets for the showdown at $6.50 post-Moonee Valley Fillies Classic nominations is the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained Exocet.
The nicely-bred daughter of Smart Missile won over 1400m at Caulfield two back in non-Black Type company before her last start eighth in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on October 2.
She is tipped to improve off that luckless run with the turns at the Valley set to suit.
Also high-up the ratings are the Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman-trained Kiwi raider La Luna Rossa and the John O’Shea-trained Chipanda for Godolphin.
Written Tycoon filly La Luna Rossa has had two starts down under.
The first was the good second in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m), but things went amiss for her in the Group 1 over a mile when eighth to Global Glamour.
Chipanda meanwhile comes off a sixth in the Edward Manifold Stakes and is a beautifully bred daughter of Sepoy.
