A class field of mares will face off in the Tristarc Stakes 2016 at Caulfield Racecourse this weekend in Melbourne, betting tips and the latest odds for the Cup Day showdown found below.
Early money in the Tristarc Stakes odds has seen the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Golden Pendant winner last time out firm in from $3.40 to $2.70 to post her fourth Group win from five runs this time in.
She has two wins from seven starts at the Caulfield track as well so is out to frank the Sydney form lines travelling south for the first time this campaign.
Despite the size of the field just two other mares are currently under $10 in the latest Tristarc Stakes betting markets with the widely-drawn Danish Twist ($4.50) coming off a close third in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) in Sydney and Group 1 winner First Seal ($6.50).
So will the best in betting get the job done for the punters or is there an upset Tristarc Stakes result pending this weekend from the likes of the John O’Shea-trained Golden Pendant third placegetter Pearls ($15) or the Chris Waller-trained French Emotion ($16) coming off a Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) win at Flemington?
#4 French Emotion ($16)
Going for the value and tipping the Chris Waller – Hugh Bowman duo to salute with the progressive French Emotion who won the Group 2 Blazer Stakes down the Flemington straight last time out. She carries more kilos here but has had two Caulfield runs for two seconds and is has plenty of form at the distance (5-2-2-0) that she should enjoy getting out over this weekend.
#6 Danish Twist ($4.50)
She has the outside alley (13 of 13) to overcome, but ace Melbourne hoop Damien Oliver is in the saddle and can give this Kris Lees-trained Newcastle visitor the right run to finish in the money from the barrier. Her third against the boys first-up at Randwick a fortnight back was excellent, she was only a neck off the winner and will be better second-up (3-1-2-0). This is her first go around Caulfield, so that’s the test, but her 1400m form is hard to knock (9-4-3-1).
#2 Tycoon Tara ($2.70)
Plenty of boxes ticked once again by the deserving favourite who could be the one to beat once more come race day. She has been her best ever form this season as a six-year-old winning the Missile Stakes, Show County and Golden Pendant all in Sydney with a fourth in the Theo Marks when under a length off the winner her only unplaced run this campaign. She’ll get the box seat from barrier three and Kerrin McEvoy has winning form on her.
